The thing with the oOple Invernational is that its not like booking in for an event, and its not done on a first come first served basis. Instead you submit your name and details registering your interest, then you wait and see if your lucky enough to get an "Invite".

I know for a fact that entries are chosen by random, and it really is the luck of the draw. Sadly each year the same comments are made, but with such a great event as the oOple race, its bound to be over subscribed and people will sadly be let down.

Hopefully next year is the turn of those who didn't get in this year.

Another option is go along anyway and have a last minute entry, last year there were open slots for both 2wd and 4wd due to no-shows.

I won't go look at this list, but I think there were 400+ entry requests for under 200 places. Yes there are some well known drivers, but there are also plenty of people who're just club racers wanting to come and have a good time. I'm really sorry we couldn't make it a bigger entry this year but we've talked a little about what's possible and maybe we can do better next year

Are ALL of the entries chosen by random?

I think any foreign entries are picked very early to allow them time to book flights etc.

And REAL big names I would imagine are given a place As its good for the publicity etc for the event (similar to Tiger Woods being invited to the Open golf tournament etc etc)

I personally think it's a good thing to get some big names involved, as I wouldn't be able see them race, let alone race with them virtually anywhere else :thumbsup:

I'm not sure but entrants are not selected by order of entry so I would guess the reserve list could be random too.

James
25-06-2012, 10:14 PM
Just had a quick look and there are 106 individuals - not entries on the reserve list, so you could practically double that figure for actual entry requests.. Sorry to those who don't get in this year but as you'll appreciate there are quite a few who are going to be disappointed - hopefully you'll be lucky next year, I'm sure there will be the inevitable handful who drop out near the event though.

Hi mate, email the address you got the entry confirmation from and Stu will sort you out I'm sure. We run very close to a loss and can't really accomodate people changing their wishes last minute so you need to decide as soon as possible if it's likely you'll not be able to attend.

In the absence of a dedicated thread to ask such questions, I'll ask here...

I heard or read somewhere that there will be power provided for everyone from some kind of nuclear assisted generator, is this true? I'd hate to leave my 12v at home and get caught with my proverbial pants down

Everyone else must provide their own.

You may be right, Mark, but...

taken from the application form: http://www.ooplerace.com/

PITTING
Pitting will be within the big marquee tent - with free tables / power and chairs for international drivers. You can choose to pit on your own of course, but we encourage drivers to pit in the big tent as that's where the action will be.

I may be wrong, but it implies that you should bring your own if your british

James
07-07-2012, 03:30 PM
Don't know about any talk of generators, we will have mains power though in the marquee and overseas drivers will have priority, power WILL be available in the marquee upto a point, it will be £5 for the weekend. We potentially have 150 individuals (180 entries) who may want power which our supply will struggle to cope with, however at the national we coped with no problems and a pretty much full marquee of racers using our mains but not everyone pitted in the marquee - so what I'm saying is yes I'm pretty sure whoever wants power in the marquee will be able to have it, only for charging though, dont want to see any compressors/kettles/heaters/tv's etc that are going trip it. If we are having problems due to excessive demand on power and we get trips we'll have to take action accordingly - just using common sense.

Sorry for hijacking this thread a little, but couldnt start a new one.

Never been to oOple before so really looking forward to this one.

But wondering what the form is for camping on site?
I was told by some previous attendees that this is what most people do and its great fun.

So Im up for it, but couple questions:
- is it still possible?
- do I need to book a site/patch of grass/stump of tree to camp on?
- is there anywhere to get a wee wash/shower around the site?

Thanks guys!

James

Hi Cardnim,

Yes most people camp or caravan for the oOple race, there is plenty of room but do all please park sensibly, thoughtfully and with a bit of common sense!

You don't need to book, but I'll be coming round collecting a little pitch fee (£5/ weekend for tents) or make my life easier and come and find me with your fiver please :)

We have toilets, sinks, stand pipes and a CDP for the caravans, we don't have showers, however Blyth services only 2 miles away have public showers you can use.
