man, that is comedy-narrow!! :p have you reinforced the chassis at all ? if its just the battery tray sides that are keeping the thing together then it probably needs some reinforcement somehow adding.
but hey, it looks cool.
For a shell, do what the french guy did and make a quick mould the right size and melt a 2L coke bottle over it !:D

what to use for re enforcement ?
what you recomend lol , dont look to bad does she lol, one of my bright ideas

maybe some carbon fibre down the side ? not sure how to attach it tho, maybe just bolted on at various places.

I reckon it might be quite good. Due to the optical illusion I though the chassis was very long but now I relaise it's not. Interested to see the electronics mounted. I think it might go well but not over the bumps as you're still on the B3 geometry with shorter wishbones and less wheel offset.
Interesting though, how much is the 2wd market being freshened up right now????

The 2wd project is a little on the back burner at the mo, as the 4wd has moved up a gear with work on the 07 car.

hahahahahahaahhaha great lol i liek that one i need to stiffen the chasis up a little how would you do it? ur a man of creations right :) . u built the slim 4 ;) . i know jimmy said about using strips of carbon fibre and dans little dig at lotus was a good idea too hehe but wondering wat to use there,

Looking again at the photos, i would guess go for a top deck, as i think you will get bending of the chassis ? if you mounted it on four screwed posts, you could maybe have all your electrics on the deck and have it as a battery strap, also this may help a bit if you are getting any twisting of the chassis.
What does the chassis feel like at the moment when you try to flex it ?.

ye the electronics are mounted on the deck as u can see from the first photos soo far , i do get some flex but not a great deal, i think if it had a battary brace and screw / body clip posts like a b4 it would be better
i could try sticking in some little streghnthing lines accross like in the pictrue ive attached below . . . . .
OldTimer

If you use the posts and get a really nice tight fit with the top deck that will help a lot. But the best thing is run it and see how it feels :) you maybe surprise, in theory it should change direction very well with all the weight very central down the center of the car.
Btw is it the plastic or graphite chassis, as the graphite would be better for this mod.
xx4-nutter
11-09-2006, 10:06 PM
the car is the non graphite version, it has some flex but not loads, ive got some time off work friday morning and i shal have a good look around in the shed and see what i can use, maybe try a diy shop and look for sumin that i can slap onto the bottom of the chassis mabe that will work stiffen it up a little,
cheers gar ;)
Actualy, although it looks funky, I don't think you have changed the handling much, as realy you haven't moved the heavy weights of the car into a different location.

the electronics havae been shifted, for a start i cant go shifting the motor or servo ?? because doing that will just make the car even more different as in more work and less play and away from the style im trying to get, the electronics are all above the cells which has to have some effect surley ?
but thank you for youre comments mate :)

Yeah, will make the centre of gravity higher, which will make the chassis roll about more in corners if you don't alter the roll centre. Which is the same effect having the radio gear outboard will have had. Might handle no different at all, might all equal out! :o
G
this is the big problem, the 2wd layout at the mo is so 'set' and works well, only dramatic changes, like moving cells or motors will drasticaly change the way the car drives.
The weight of the electrics isn't great so will have far less of a telling on how the car reacts to steering input and track handling.
still, a very cool try, just think, if it goes like a B3, and its that annrow, you still got summat there ;-)

Sorry, forgot to say I think it looks cool. :D

it does look good, totaly different, and for the fact you narrowed your shell so well, gets a thumbs up, but just don't stop the brain juices there, keep going.

There is something mad and appealing about these narrow cars.

wow im glad to see poeple are taking an interet in my car lol i like the fact its sumthing out of the orderary aswell lol, and my dads comment " greyhound " ohh dear lol ( my grandma has a greyhound called jimmy by the way :p not joking either !!! lol ), ive jst got a load of sheet aluminium 3mm thick so ill have a play around and see what i can get done from that, once all is inplace and im happy with it ill be asking for the parts to be made from a curtain company called atamic carbon lol, rough prices on shock towers say for instance a xxx4 one or a zx5 one to give me sum sort of idea what prices to expect please thats if u are still doing this sort of thing ;) .

pm sent mate, ive got the electronics in the car finally, soem pictures below, this is the only speedo spare thats worth putting into it, although there is a very nice lrp speedo for sale ive heard from footy lol that would drop right in. enjoy . .
more parts are gonna be changed real sooon from help by atomic carbon

PM sent back.
The sanwa receiver is only 18 grams so is not going to change the C of G a lot, not sure on the speedo. Maybe a tricky one but do you have any clearer photos ?, as it would be handy to see where you can mount a top deck.

here is a better close up picture of the car hope this is clearer, im apolagie for the qulaity of photo

Maybe you could have two posts were the foam is, and if you could have two at the back as well, then that should remove a nice amount of flex from around that area.
xx4-nutter
12-09-2006, 09:08 PM
ahhhhh ill have a go at that tomorrow when i get home from work sounds like a good idea i have a little more room at the back aswell about the same sort of space near the rear shock tower so maybe i could cofertbly fit in 4 posts for that sorta job hummmmm
cheers gar ;)

In effect you make it a box section, chassis / 4 posts / top deck :)

It looks very good.
For chassis bracing, I would go for triangulation. A piece on each side of the chassis, from mid way along the cells and going back and upwards mounted high on the tower - triangulation is great for reducing flex. But remember to keep it light - use some Carbon!
Also, I would consider raising the sides of the chassis front to back - carbon? it could be bolted on from the inside with countersunk screws so everything wil still fit.
Also, finally. With mounting those arms you have opened up the possibilities for the rear end, why don't you take the wheels off, widen the track to the point where you will be able to use B4/Losi rear wheels and have the correct total width, should be possible with B4 rear driveshafts.
Id name it the = ognarud

wow great name that, ye these ideas are great lol, im gonna have a play around with some alimunium sheeting ( but its only 3mm thick :o ) and make wat i can and then get it all converted to carbon fibre,
also shocks what would be better , losi or accosiated ?
 to every one helping me . i can see this car going well so far !

having the shocks on ur back shock tower set to the back of youre car helps wat , also setting to the other side of the back , what charitoristics does this make the car have . on a 2wd ?
cheers gar ;)

for the brace idea, u cud screw it at the front on the back mounts for the front brace, so it goes over the servo 2, and make some mounts at the back of the battery tub bit.
ye u should mod the back bit with losi/ae wheels should make it handle bumps a bit better
edit: the brace has to miss the servo arm.

sounds like a cool idea as for the wheels and stuff dunno if it will make it better as already it seems perfect over bumpy sections and jumps stays nice and level !!! im pleased to say.
as for the rear drive shafts yes sounds good, any one selling a set of AE rear b4 C.V.Ds? if so pm me, the cars nearly complete as in over all, it runs and ive raced it and it goes very well, im making a 4wd at the moment along with ryan on this forum as in the "RL1" ( Ryans idea , car design of the RL1 ).
ive tried losi heavy duty cvds but unfortunatly the ends that go into to the diff are too big , ive tried to file them down and the pins got so low and i pushed it a lil hard and they sanpped lol oOps !
cheers garry
(PM me if any one has any b4 C.V.Ds or u know of any one who has any they want to sell, i dnt want to go paying out for some brand new ones jst incase they are no good lol )

Never had a B3, but if it weren't for the imperial stuff, I would put one on my whislist for a project like this one.
Make sure you finish it off in beauty!
