Hi guys

I am potentially returning to electric racing after over 15 years out of action. Things have moved on from the brushed motor and nicad days I was used to and I am a bit confused, particularly with a lot of the terminology for lipos, brushless motors and esc. I've done some searches on here and got some answers, but would be great to have it all in one place (apologies if it is already, but not found it yet).

Some example questions that might be good to have in a sticky so its easy to find.

Motors: What do the different numbers mean, e.g. 6.5T. Is lower more power, what would be a good starter motor, which would be good for a competent club driver. Guess it would also depend on the size of track and surface. But some top level advice would be good.

ESC: sensored vs sensorless? Anything else I need to know before buying.

Batteries: Nimh vs Lipo. In particular the Lipo terminology isn't the easiest to get to grips with, e.g. 6000mAh 7.4V 60C 2S:confused:

I am sure others would have different questions for the sticky, just an idea:thumbsup:

having just returned to racing after 6 years myself i completely understand its a bit confusing to start with but its so much easier now.

just like brushed motors lower T(turn) rating means faster motor

esc i think for racing sensored is the only way to go but someone more experienced can answer that.

the batteries are fairly simple actually. the mAh rating s the same as only nimh 2S is 7.4V and the C rating is the current that can be drawn from the pack.
So a 1200mAh 10C battery is good for 12A (10 x 1200mA/1000) and the same size 12C battery would be good for 14.4A (12 x 1200mA/1000)
or in your example 60*6000/1000=360A

i have found that the new lipos and brushless systems are so efficient that i only need 2 sets of batteries to do a nights racing (1 in the car 1 on charge)

no doubt there will be more indepth replys so i can learn some more :)
