A friend is looking to sell his new built Tamiya Egress (been on a shelf for years), mint condition with a Dynatech 02H fitted......he's asked me how much he can expect....I've no idea, any ideas anyone? Pics show white wheels but he has black ones too.:wub

Would look nice with my original Avante!

Well we could all throw prices up here, but none of them will be what it's actually worth right now. I know it was worth a lot more before Tamiya rereleased the Avante and the drivetrain and suspension from it under the Vajra. Check out ebay completed listings to give you an idea of the actual current value.

If you want it yourself, then it's worth what you are prepared to pay for it. On that basis, to me it's worth about £100.

As Terry says they are now generally what you are prepared to pay for it. I tend to value them to my needs - normally 100% original or with period Hop-Ups.

However that isnt a mint, 100% original new-built Egress so Terry's estimate to me is about right.

Its definitely been at least part-rebuilt at some point - there are incorrect damper springs, missing Egress-specific BF8 & 9 front sus arm damper mounts, white Vanquish wheels ( lucky he has the original black ones ! ), several of the Egress-specific Titanium screws look like they have been replaced with normal zinc plated screws, and scuffed Hi-Cap dampers... and thats just what i notice without studying it too hard. If i had better pictures i could double check the above and maybe notice any other anomaly's for you.

So its Ebay value is anybodies guess - but i could see someone who dosent know better paying 200 quid or more on that thinking it was mint condition 100% new-built & original. But to get it back to mint condition & 100% original will take a bit of time and a fair bit of money.... over what Terry has estimated for his worth of the car if im honest.

I'd sell the 02H motor seperately, list the Egress as 'part rebuilt, missing some specific Egress parts but in very good overall condition' and see where it takes you if you want to be honest about it. If he has the original box & manual all the better though.

Sorry if i sound harsh, but the Avante/Egress family are my 'speciality' cars in my collection and even ive been caught out in the past, so i just say it as i see it

No probs thanks to both of you for the info.

Dyna can you please cast your eye over my Avante which I was told was 1988 all original when I bought it this year from a Canadian guy....

Lol you have absolutely no worries with your Avante, Dan :)

Had a shufty at your pics and its pretty much spot on ! Even parts that sometimes get lost or missed off like the F&R shock tower braces are present & correct. The front ally sus uprights look correct too ( the first generation Avante's had uprights with no strengthening webbing ) replacements and later cars had added webbing on them in the vain attempt to make them stronger... no hope

Things like the screws seem original too - one clue is the rear gearbox top. The 3 rear long top screws should be black machine screws, but the side one should be a zinc self tapper... which again looks all present and correct !

Bodies been done very well, driver is also very good. Really, what you paid for it is, in my opinion, very, very fair. Especially with the Technigold & CPR & radio.

All you need now is a nice original Tamiya black Ni-Cad pack and its perfect !

I cant see many "problems" Dan, but that is far from new built, very far indeed, thats the kind of condition one of my runners would be in.

Depends what your paying for the old girl, if its cheap, grab it, parts are quite available with the recent Tamiya releases, some specific Egress parts might cost you a bit though, such as the scuffed damper replacements.

If he is asking a wedge for it, knock him down a ton, i would give much more than £200 for that, and id need to look it over by eye for that too.

This is a car im holding out for a rere TBH, im pretty sure itll happen too with the Avante and Vajra out there.

I just sold an original Egress for just over 200 on eBay. It wasn't mint but not too bad. Possibly similar to the car above.

I bought a Vajra and built an Egress using Fibrelyte chassis parts and other bits and bobs.

Nice score Dan, i just got finished building a 2011, really like the tyre logos painted in, may have to do that myself, this is one car i cant stop looking at.

That Ultima doesnt look to bad at all lol, a spares donor eh?

So are you just collecting, or thinking of racing?

Hi Lee, I race a TOP Photon in Touring Car and a Lazer ZX5-FS in Off Road. I sold my RC10 a while back so don't do 2WD.

The '88 Avante, Ultima, Turbo Optima, Optima Mid and Lazer ZX-R are going in a display cabinet....at the moment only the Avante is in a fit state for such a display!

My 1st proper car was a Turbo Optima Mid and I always wanted an Avante and a Lazer ZX-R so I guess, like most, I'm just reliving my youth ;)

Cheers,

Dan

Ahh im with ya bud, i havent raced in years, but i tinker and collect, thinking of getting back on the sticks in anger someday though lol.

Right now im the same, just reliving it all i guess, its the reason i bought my Yokomo, as i ran one back in the day, dut i think one day id like to get hold of a Mid custom as i ran one of those too.
