Ran a 5.5T motor last sunday for the first time in my 410 running standard spur and 25 tooth pinion, it did 4 rnds of qually but in the 3rd final it stopped smoking, was the esc to blame? is there anyway to test it before fitting another new motor and risking it going the same way?
Before being asked the motor was not running excesively hot all day!

25t sounds massive for a 5.5 in a 410, what speedo was it?

Get a multimeter, set it to resistance and measure (without the motor connected) between each phase and the battery wires (in turn). If any of the phases register less than a few thousand kilohms to the rail (+ve or -ve) then the FETs have failed in that phase and you risk blowing the motor or ruining the speedo beyond repair (as it might be salvagable in its current state)

Hope it helps,

Ian

Thats a really good tip!! My fets have just failed on my LRP and I took it apart to check, but good to know for future reference.

What range of pinions do people usually use on there 410,s ???

Am running a lrp 6.5 x12 and seem to struggle to get a decent take off to top speed on the straight if that makes sense.

I'll be at the 4WD regional at ours end of this month if you want me to look at it?

Err is that all 3 wires to a battery terminal? It doesn't sound right, it's normally only 1 phase that goes. Make sure that you use the correct multimeter connection on the battery wire (black to black, red to red) and measure both red and black to each phase (6 readings). you might only get one reading that measures low, or you might get both red and black to a phase that measure low (i.e. top and bottom FETs have blown).
