Save up a bit more and get one of these: Spektrum DX3C (http://www.rccarshop.co.uk/index.php/radios/handsets/spektrum-dx3c-dsm-3-channel-surface-radio-spm3300.html)

You'll struggle to find anything better than your ansmann for 40-50, unless you go second hand.

Im open to 2nd hand as just starting out an W5 came with another RC car but the spring action when turning feels slack an to be honest cheap

Turn it upside down. Look for a wheel tension adjustment screw. Tighten it up a bit.

Trawl the for sale forum, or get a better new rig. Spektrum DX3C, Ansmann W6 are much better, for £60-£75. Anything for less than £50 is going to be as cheap or cheaper than your W5.

I believe their was an ansmann W6 direct copy on ebay from china, for not much money. A racer I know has one, and it seems ok. Same as ansmann w6, but with a different badge.

Search ebay for a flysky GT3B or GT3C.

Hobby King trannies are also Ansmann compatible, as are Eurgle.

The older ansmann W3.1 feels ok, tbh. A mate has one. you may pick one up second hand?

The flysky GT3B is a direct clone of the Ansmann W6 I believe. Google says they are 100% compatible.
