View Full Version : Losi XXX shocks on Mad Monkey

Just bought some Losi XXX shocks for my Mad Monkey and I would like to overhaul them before fitting them. I have a few questions regarding what parts to fit and what set-up for Grass track with jumps:

- What are the best value O-rings to fit, e.g. Originals (LOSA5014) or after market?

- To replace scratched shock shafts are there any alternatives to the Losi shafts (e.g. LOSA5060) worth considering?

- What grade oil should I use front and rear?

- What pistons? Either Losi or an alternative? So far I've found the following from Losi:
Black #57 LOSA5045
Red #56 LOSA5046
Orange #55 LOSA5047
Blue #54 LOSA5048

- I've read on another thread that it's best to fit Losi pink springs at the rear and blue/black at the front. Has anyone tried anything else?

Dont know if this will help you much but i run Associated B4 FT shocks on mine with 30wt oil all round. Blue springs front and silvers rear. Running on mainly astro but with dirt and grass thrown in for good measure.

Those spring rates sound about right. I found the following the following for comparing spring rates:

Are the B4 FT shocks large bore? Also how many holes and what diameter are they in the pistons?

If in can remeber rightly they are red 2 hole pistons. No idea what the hole size is

Losi red pistons all round

Front: black spring, losi 35wt oil
Rear: pink spring, losi 30wt oil

That should be a good starting point :thumbsup:

Eric from concept racing used to use losi shocks on his car if I remember correctly. His went quite well.
