There seems to be a lot of movement towards mid mounted 2wd's at the moment.

As a relative newbie to offroad could someone explain the reason behing the motor being mounted across ways and not front to back ( ala tc3 etc )???

I know there is probably a reason..

Have a look it the 'X-factory' section, a thread called 'X6' - all your answers are there.

I can finw why the motor was placed behind the wheels but not why its mounted sideways and not longways like in the pred....

Surely if supported properly a pred rear gearbox would work with the shaft cut off JUST infront of the slipper

For a 2wd car the easiest way to mount the motor is inline with the axles. The motor has bit of effect on the car when it spools up or when you slam the brakes on, not as much as the wheels but a little. So with the motor mounted lengthways down the chassis it can have an effect on the balance / attitude in the air.

There is a car like you describe though, this photo was posted on Racechat

I dont think the car has had much testing yet ?! but looks promising.
