ran my new x6 at Ledbury today for the first time. Fair play guys it's stunning! Spent the whole day changing set up. what surprised me the most was the fact the rear shocks need a lot more damping than on the b4. My only slight niggle is not being able to get enough droop on the back end. But am I impressed compared to my b4? Put it this way I'll never run a b4 again!

telboy
21-05-2008, 08:13 PM
Have you got something going on with GRP then G?

I think you need some more GRP stickers on your car because GRP isn't mentioned enough. I also don't think that the GRP on your GRP t-shirt is big enough, you need a bigger GRP on your GRP shirt.

Are you running GRP tyres at all? Think you should run GRP tyres matey, then you could put GRP all over your car!

Hmm G R P........Grahams Racing Products........that could work.:D

In the world of R/C racing, it's things like these which separate the men from the boys, the winners from the also-rans, the champs from the rest of the pack, Dan from ...

Dare I say it... ... I learned about this when running touring cars. Dark times!

my old cars

original x5 built by chris long for me in 2006 using a new xx4, i had a roller bering mod on the belt and one in front of the xx4 pulley if the belt skipped over.
xxxcr rear end as well and EA3 arms

original x6 3 gear bought and run at the end of 06 with what is now the E speed optional rear link, but this was a prototype mod in plastic. also had the extra rear shock tower pick up point on the original tower
servo was moved forwards 2mm on b4 post and centre and right pillar trimmed for equal lock
also like runnig it on 3hole Rayspeed pistons and longer b3 rear shafts

Ian southwell now has the x5 and the x6 is in bits needing a new chassis

I just finished my X-6 a couple of weeks ago and here it is. I am working on a new body but my painting skills are rather basic. I am practicing before I do the new body and wing. Right now it runs a Hacker 10.5 with a Mamba Max. A multiplex receiver and HiTec digital karbonite servo. I run a Core 2 cell lipo and it goes like a mad dog.

@ Tom and Paul

The car is much better balanced in the air with the rear wing mounted as far forward as possible (and little/no guerney), which means you need to trim a section out of the front of the wing. Like;

http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/southportnational2007/2wd/imagepages/NO5E1237.html

Up to you like but if it jumps nose high move the wing forward and cut the back out, same with understeer into a corner at the end of a straight (Worksop for example).

Thanks I try my best  the front castor block hubs are fastrax, not essential I think i broke only a couple of these and the steering blocks sometimes at the same time on the B4 and same with the X6 but i just got sick of them breaking, got these so only the steering hubs will break which is once every year normaly when they have got old and decrepid :D wouldn't get both castor block and steering block hubs though as this will put more stess on the wishbone which is worse, touch wood...havn't broken a front wishbone since last year either :woot:

Yellow wheels rock! At least they do when you have failing eyesight like me

Tower on backwards... really?! I was going to give it the flick anyway since it's too strong and I keep stripping the front bulkhead / top plate.

_sleigh_
28-01-2009, 01:51 PM
Yeah, the milled sections are to give extra clearance for the shocks. This is extremely useful when using Losi shocks, as it makes adjusting the collars super simple.

If you've just done a straight swap from std tower to K-Factory, then the front top plate will strip dead easy. That's because the K-factory tower (inc. aluminium mounts) is a bit thicker than the std B4 tower, so you need longer screws.

Think the standard screws are 3/8". I'm pretty sure I've got 1/2" in mine now, they might even be longer.

Mike Hudson
28-01-2009, 01:56 PM
seen a fair few peoples kfactory towers pop off from people using the origional screws that are too short, make sure your using longer as i have done also which i noticed when swapping towers...

01-05-2009, 08:41 AM
Indeed, the holes in the tower are a direct fit for Losi mounts.

I'm going to be varying between the new squared shell and the Azarashi one when I can work out how much difference there is. Certainly with the stock shell and wing (cut low guerney) there is more rear bias in the car, and I am captain understeer as we all know ;)

Yes, no changes to fit them, they fit perfectly, I think X-factory use the XX-4/XXX-4/XXX/XXX-BK2/XXX-CR wing mount in the beginning of the X-6 project, on the prototype (Paul can confirm this). I use the XXX models # LOSA-4222 who don't have the second hole.

I don't know if it change a lot, I never use the original X-6 wing. I think the JComcepts 7" give probably less traction on rear but the access to the shock's screws is easier.

I have found using a standard shape wing to give a bit more high speed steering, especially on a low grip track like worksop, i found that on a sweeper the x6 wing would make the front end wash out at times. It's just another tuning option.

I would like to add i wasn't running any extra weight at all in the original 4 gear car and using a 3200 lipo.

Yep, early prototyping was done with the Losi mounts. Check it out: http://www.2wdrc.com/News/05-21-2006.htm

Man we've come a long way!

I've found that the standard X - 6 wing really helps lock in the rear end for me, especially coming out of corners. Combined with the JConcepts front wing my car jumps really well.... until it gets windy. Running outdoors over larger jumps the wind just grabs that big rear wing and has its way with it. At that point I usually take the front wing off, put on the losi mounts and go with a JConcepts "B4" wing (which one varies depending mostly on what's in my box).

This is something that i have been playing about with recently, i have tried the cells in the normal layout and like this back to back and to me the car feels nicer like this. I feel it makes the car more predictable over bumps and slightly more mid corner steering.

that squared shell is more uglyier than the non squaired

Lee
19-05-2009, 10:46 AM
I'm sure you are aware that the shell was designed with performance in mind rather than aesthetics, plus things that are winning become more appealing. Think of all the cars/bikes over the years that looked ugly at first sight but as it performs well the looks go out the window and you see a different appeal.

Rear suspension arms on the x6^2 are symmetrical and can be used on either side, whereas original x6 ones are handed and therefore different in geometry, rear end was subtly changed between the 2 versions.

Jono,

Just take some rapping foil (like the one used in the kitchen for preserving food or even better the plastic foil for wrapping flowers - this is stiffer), sqeeze it to a little ball (not to tight) dip it in paint of your choice and apply it by tapping the body.

If your done just spray white behind it (or something else).

Yet another XFactory family member is born :D

My X6 is finally ready. Build quality is very good. There are some solutions to get used to. I'm not a big fan of the battery strap. We have to charge in Lipo bags, and there's no space for thumb screws in the front. A friend of mine who also will get an X6 makes body shells, i'm sure he will make one for these too, with more space around the battery.
All in all i'm impressed, tomorrow it's maiden drive!

hottuna - are those 4wd blockheads in the front? what sort of surface do u race on? how do u like them in the front?

Yet another XFactory family member is born :D

My X6 is finally ready. Build quality is very good. There are some solutions to get used to. I'm not a big fan of the battery strap. We have to charge in Lipo bags, and there's no space for thumb screws in the front. A friend of mine who also will get an X6 makes body shells, i'm sure he will make one for these too, with more space around the battery.
All in all i'm impressed, tomorrow it's maiden drive!

I think those are Losi Taper Pins. I tend to run blockheads on high bite tracks. If the raacing line is dirt free the taper pin is great. If the track is high bite with a light amount of dust than the blockhead is the way to go. To me the blockheads seem to get thru that little bit of dust better than the taper pin.

Yes, it's cut and glued front blockheads. I used them on the nordic championship, 100% astro. But that was with my B4.I've only had one test ride with my X6, i still have to test what works best on our local grass track.

Yes Chazz, that's HRH! The breakage was a result of a brush with the wall over the back triple. Drifted a little bit too wide!

I should have some more pics soon from Leigh, including some really good shots of Brian's cars in action.

Cheers,
Scott

why ae shocks?

why ae shocks?

Economics really. I had AE shocks on both my buggy and truck, so I could either buy two sets of Losi shocks, or one set of AE shocks for the X5! Much easier to have the same brand of shocks on all three cars.

Personally, I like the AE shocks, but I always build them with Yokomo caps so they are easy to bleed.

Cheers,
Scotty

Which is what have been telling X6 owners over here for ages now. You need to just run one make or the other, but which one is your preferance.

I only asked because the xx4 you converted would of came with losi shocks

is there an easy way to use Losi springs on Associated shocks? Do I just need a washer at the top of the shock to hold them in place? Just wondering as I have loads of Losi springs and not many associated and think that its the slightly chunkier Losi springs that are better than Associated and not the whole shock.

Just my opinion

Ben

Oh, and I see quite a few Losi being sold shockless at the moment as the shocks are more valuable on their own.

You'll need losi spring cups for the bottom and trinity associated shock collars or washers for the top

Was cheaper than getting a decent slipper driver at the time! The lexan protectors disapeared during the weekend... :)

Pics don't seem to work mate

Oh and we kind of drifted away from one ways this year. On a tight, technical track (that most of the national ones were) the diff was at least as fast as a one way and MUCH easier to drive. However on a fast flowing track , particularly with power on corners, the one way might well be faster

Thanks for the advice. I ran on our track with both diffs yesterday and the car seemed well suited for our small-medium technical track. Perhaps a touch more exit steering would have been ideal but I have the optional steering link I haven't installed - heard it should help there.

The pics should be up now... my hosting seems to be a tad unstable this week. :(

About 6 months ago after 18 years i have found the way back to RC.

Initially back whith 1/10th pan car as thats where it al ended.
Soon couple off 1/12th where added.

After buying a new transmitter got in to a chat with local shop owner abbout the good old days .
As they where running off road i told him i would check it out with my old TRX-1. But reconsiderd letting him rest enjoying his pension.

So becausse shop owner let me have a snif at his X-6 i went looking for a B4 donnor.
Didnt found 1 quick enough to my likings so got a new kit together with a Square.

Kit with some topping :):

Right after the build had a go at backyard track:

Finished off the Square and already feeling the love .

Hoping i will find some time this weekend so i can get back on a track for the first time in more than 18 years.

Paint scheme hopefully makes ppl aware to get away as quick as possible causse i have no clue what i'm doing :woot: or where i will be going!!!
Be warned!!!

Was a great car too, comming of the RC10 gold/black(we) tubs.
Especialy on real dirt track races he rised above them all .
But hard to setup for indoor carpet races, the Asso was more al-round to give it a name.

Not seen too many action so still in pretty decent shape, thats why i didnt want to trash it at my first go after 18years :bored:.

Will post some pics in vintage area in following days if you like.
