Well chaps! Since I seem to be getting into this painting lark pretty seriously!
I need to think about some extraction system.

I use a pretty decent mask at the moment, but even so the paint seems to get on my chest! Even with the garage door open it looked foggy yesterday :woot:

The you end up with metallic blue snot
Never good!!!

Any ideas?

Well to be honest my first thought is what mask are you using as I dont really dont think its the right one, or its past its expiration time and you need a new one.

I would recommend a good 3m paint mask, if you email them with details of the paint (data sheets etc) for them they will even recommend one thats more than suited for the job, as what your experiencing isnt normal in my opinion.

A extractor is still a good idea but I'd still recommend a good mask, maybe ask Jon or one of the other guys what mask they recommend.

And dont forget if your using laquers as well then you need a mask good enough to keep them out aswell as the water based stuff.

Best of luck
Graham

I think, as Graham politely put it, your masks not doing it's job, therefore it's not a decent one. I don't have that problem with mine, although I only use water based, as i'm girly and don't do smelly ones.

Health first, painting second.

The 3M disposable ones are fine, they'll last for a few months if you're only doing one every so often. They'll keep out both solvent and WB paint. Nothing should be getting into your nose if you have a mask on. I don't wear a mask and the more attractive coloured snot is just a side effect of that but if you're wearing a mask and still getting it clearly it's not doing it's job.

As for extraction, the little booth mentioned above is okay or if you want to put something in your wall you need a sealed unit so the paint doesn't interfere with the motor or if you're spraying copious amounts of solvents you don't get a spark which would ignite the fumes in the air. You can get specialist paint fans, I bought mine from a local place Hydor. It depends what you want though. Garage door open should really be enough however you ideally need a through draft to shift the fog.
