Is it feasibly possible to make an 8th buggy chassis at home?

What sort of aluminium would you need? - I have read that it is 7075-T6 etc. on the top end chassis's. Is it a) possible to buy it in small hobby sized sheets and b) is it possible to cut with 'normal' tools?

7075 is hard to get hold of in the UK, for small sheets you need to get it from the USA really. I have used 6082 for a few chassis in the past but always braced them to make sure theres no flex, that said they have all worked great :). 6082 is redily available, all aluminium is pretty easy to cut, the harder stuff is easiest as it doesnt clog your tools, cheap stuff is like cheese

all these hand made by me out of 6082

how did you mill out the section in the chassis by hand?

Candyman - that is amazing work!

Are you in the UK - where do you order 6082 from.

Can I also ask what tools you use for cutting, milling etc.?

Thanks again,
Stephen

my guess would be a milling maching which is manual and not a cad version, hence by hand

Metal blade for wood chop saw works well on sheet

I have a milling machine but its not cnc, the recesses in the chassis I milled. Some of the parts, like this "backbone" curve I cut by hand as in hacksaw and files.
