Hi all, sorry for what might seem a daft question, but, here goes anyway

I race the RC bikes at nationals etc and next weekend we having a GP event, open class.

normally I race in the stock class, we get handed out mardave G2 motors and return each meeting

I dont want to spend out money on a brushless setup as I will never use it again, but this GP is open class, so I fancied just pepping the bike up a little, get some more speed out of it and have a bit more fun.

from what I understand the G2 is a 24turn motor

if I look on ebay etc for maybe a 17 or 19t modified motor, is that going to be noticably quicker than my normal mardave G2 silvercan thing

my speedo is a Vega and as far as I know its fine down to about 12T

also apologies, but whats the difference between the single and doubles?

thanks
Tony

Yes a 19 or 17 turn will be noticeably quicker. I can get a 27 turn stock motor to run faster than the G2 and if you wind up the timing you can get more speed out of it at the detriment of torque and heat, which with the bikes having reduced torque isn't usually a problem.

Single winds tend to have more bottom end torque so accelerate harder, but the double wind will give smoother acceleration and a higher top speed.

ok thanks guys, and thanks for that link

yes we used to run with 27T stock motors, but some were far far faster than others LOL

even now with the G2 the fast stock guys are on the same pace as the slow guys with brushless and front brakes etc

I will maybe get brave and go for a 17T double and see how that goes.

one day when they come up with a waterproof sensored brushless setup, then I might look at moving up to superbikes :)

try a 19 turn spec motor, that'll be pretty quick and cheaper than buying a full modified, know nothing about bikes but the 19 turn in a tc is quicker than my 13 turn brushless
