Stiff front diff DEX410

I'm a poet and didn't even know it!

Jk, anyways, I just built my front and rear diffs and attached the shafts, I forgot to add the gear grease so I went back and greased the gear teeth, my rear diff spins freely but my front diff rotates smooth almost 360 but then slightly gets sticky, what might be the cause of this? I don't hear or feel any binding maybe grease build up? too much grease?

It appears when pushing the diffs into the housing cradles on the chassis they have to pushed as far as possible or they will slightly rub

The Durango uses oil filled diffs, are you filling the diff with grease or oil?

Not to mention that they will free up after you've run a pack thro them.

But yes, oil IN the diffs, grease on the ring and bevel gear.

As mentioned in my post it's the gear teeth I greased. However I believe once a pack runs through them they will loosen thanks to mattr's idea. Just thought I would post here and get ppls opinions.

If the car is brand new, normally I would take it out on the road first.
Give it a slow 5-min run. Then strip the diffs again and rebuild them.

It's like anything they will always be a little stiff before you run them in.

Start with the kit shims first, after you have run it, check the shims again.

Sorry for being a newb but where are the shims? I'm looking in my manual and don't see them in the diff diagram.

Sorry for being a newb but where are the shims? I'm looking in my manual and don't see them in the diff diagram.In the 410R manual they are on page 2, 31033 and 31034. You *usually* need to add one or two to get the mesh to the ring gear just right.

Have a good read of the guide as suggested by ekt - if you follow it to the letter you should have no problems :)
