sx3/sv

I was wondering if anybody has built a 2wd schumacher with the rear end of a cat sx3 (mid motor) and the front end of a cougar? which would make a similar lay out as the Kyosho DB1. I think that this combination would make a well balanced car. what are your thoughts?

I have seen one at Silverstone, John Spencer I think (could be wrong though). I can't see how it will different from any mid motor transverse motor car, the DB1 being a very different. concept

Hi Chris, My thoughts where to have the motor midway down the car to make it more balanced which in turn should have the car perform better which is the same as the DB1. the only differance would be the schumacher being belt driven.

Best thing to do is try it mate, I have a db1 and am now making summin simular its about half done at the moment, with my engineering background I like trying stuff and tinkering and see how it goes :)

I think a similar project has been done with a TRF501X a few years back - the TRF201 wasn't out yet, but the guy wanted a 2WD buggy, so he converted the 501X to 2WD with another front end I believe. I can't find the thread, but it was an interesting project... It should go extremely quick when the grip is there :)

Worked really well too.

I've also built a Tamiya 201/502x, but this isn't as good as a Schumi setup, although it does look rather special.

Tweaky, your sx3/sv looks great however when I do mine I want to design a new chassis and not modifiy the sx3. which shell did you use on the car?

Hi Pete, the shell is a ProLine Bulldog Asociated B44, 2012 version.

A dedicated chassis would be the next step, then you can keep your sx3 intact just in case you wanted to convert it back.

I'd be interested to hear how your project goes, as I'm in the process of trying something similar.

I've converted my Cat sx2 to 2wd as a stopgap to buying a new 2wd, and I've had quite a job getting the rear to behave when exiting corners.

I think I've learned that the rear camber link is part of the solution, as it is designed with kit settings to make the rear go "loose" to help cornering. On a 2wd I didn't find that was particularly desirable, and I tried it in the middle setting last sunday for 2 packs on a fairly moist grass track, and it seemed a lot better. It was great round corners, expecially medium fast and fast corners, and seemed very balanced.

I've also got 60g under the rear gearbox which I felt it needed on the bumpy grass track I race at, I may try without at some point.

Anyway, I'm hoping it will go well this sunday with some competition now I think I've got the settings roughly in the right ball park.

I need to make narrower at the sides of the batteries, also Im not sure what shell to use or to make one. anyway here is a quick pic of what I have done so far.

One of the Schumacher lads at TORCH had one of these. Built by i think his dad or possibly his dads friend iirc. Went well but anything seems to be quick in the ex-TC guys hands lol

Looks good! The only thing id change would be your motor slot make it 'thinner' and 'shorter' you dont have much material left on the side at the moment and it could snap upon an impact...

Other than that looks nice!!

I think you'll be (too?) tight on space if you use a saddle pack... Other than I can only say this looks very, very nice! :thumbsup:

Lookin' good ... could be the best layout for a mid motor buggy yet !!! Can you not space the motor up so the motor sits on the chassis rather than cut a big hole in it ?

Could do... Centre of gravity and all that though i guess

To be honest im not all that happy with the chassis so I am going back to the drawing board and starting again, although your idea does seem a good one which i Had not thought about, I dont really want to use a thicker chassis but I suppose I could go upto a 2.5mm. I am thinking about doing to chassis when im happy with them 1 in fibreglass and one in carbon fibre.

Im looking at the possibility of shifting wieght around the car by moving the batteries into a number of positions which would give a differant feel to the car every time.
As I race at www.stokercmcc.co.uk (http://www.stokercmcc.co.uk) I was hoping to have the car finnished by January ready to start our new season but the way things are going its not looking good :o all work and no play :thumbdown:.
