Good question, I'd like to know this too.

I know the shock mounts are differents, and the ZX-R uses medium length gold shocks on the front (ZX uses short). And obviously the body on the 'R' is much better looking.

Differences are:
Shock towers
Drivetrain
Top deck
Shocks
Diffs
Driveshafts
Wheels n tyres
Bodyshell & wing

Shock towers:
Shorter front tower on the ZX
Narrower rear tower on the ZX

Drivetrain
The ZX uses a diff integrated into the spur gear with a trust bearing in seperating the drive pulleys

Top deck:
ZX uses a two piece top deck seperated by a belt cowling.

Shocks:
Short front on the ZX

Diffs:
Gear diffs on the ZX (used on the ZX-Sport also)

Driveshafts:
Universal swingshafts all round on the ZX-R. Dogbone on the ZX rear.

Wheels n tyres:
Standard dish 2.2 on the ZX-R. Optima/Maxxum 2.0's on the ZX
Mini-pin equivilent tyres on the ZX-R. Full spikes on the ZX

Main performance difference though is the main drive shaft assembly

Regards
Nick

The wishbones are also different, the ZXR had some material removed from them to lighten them up a bit I think.

The wing mount also changed, on the ZXR it's mounted to the shock tower.

Good work, forgot about the wing stay!
Just had a look at my Lazers and I can't see a difference in the wishbones. Same part number in the manuals too.
Got some 'option' ones in a packet with 'graphite' written on them. Dunno if that's a reference to the colour or what.

I've got a basically new Lazer ZX roller I'm about to eBay....comes with clear original shell and is in shelf queen condition. If anyone's after one?

Zxr had an angled steering plate, and zx was straight and in my opinion the better version.

Yup, you tended to see the kits at the end of the production run with upgrades, then the next version appeared in the shops.

the first time I saw the kit I think it may be wrong,I took some pictures and post at rc10 talk
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=22915&hilit=late+version+lazer

I saw some runner have the same thing but really don't know may be the owner make the changes.until I saw three nib kits appear, not only one of these, no one want to change several kits parts.but the kit of my friend has been gone.just left these pictures, the original pack never been open just like that.may be I was wrong but this really exist

Just compared my 2 ZX's......I haven't owned since new.

One has same wishbones as the ZXR and also a ZXR wing mount.....are these representative of the later ZX kits mentioned above or a user mod?

The one with wheels has different wishbones and the same wing mount as used on the Optima Mids.

I'd say they are user mods, have you got a pic of the rear shock tower on the one with the ZX-R wing mount

No worries, glad I could help.

On the left are the ZX wishbones, you can see there is more material on them between the 'holes'. The ZXR ones are on the right, I think there were also some later ZXR wishbones made out of a graphite material, they look the same as the ZXR wishbones but they are a bit lighter...
