The 350d is a good solid entry level dlsr. More than capable of taking professional looking photographs.

Unless it's low light conditions the 350d will take the same pictures.

would something like the 400 or 450 give me any major benefit over the 350 picture quaility wise? also seen the sony

that seems a good spec

No - they are as good as the same camera.

Some of my best photos are from my D70 - the 350D is by all accounts a 'better' camera in terms of megapixels and probably noise as well. So there's ya answer. Learning how to use it is far more important than a couple of extra mega pixels.

the 350-400-450 are all very similar, they just do minor updates to the model every 18months. Using the camera properly is a lot more important than a fancier camera.

thanks for all the pm's and help,

just wondered if anyone has or had a go with the canon 40d

with the cash back canon are doing at the moment i can get the 40d with 17-85 lense for £700 which is cheaper than a 450d and lense

I got my Canon 450D and 17-85 f/4.5-5.6 IS USM today. 70-200 coming next month.

working my way through the manual... have managed action shots of cat so far (4-legged purring type, not Schumacher).

Wow. good choice. A bit different to the 350D that was being discussed here!

Keep us posted with how you get on with it.

I'd say low light isn't a major problem for Canons, never has been with their CMOS sensor. My ex wifes 300D is way better than my Nikon D200 in low light.

Cheers!
