CAT XLS restore help...

Need some help with a restore I want to start please chaps.

I've got this CAT XLS and I know the history so quite keen to get it restored.
Not looking for it to be pristine - the fact that it has been used is the charm for me but there are a couple of questions if anyone can help.

Do the chrome wheels ever come up or is there somewhere I'm missing to get some?
It's got fronts but for when it's on the shelf I would prefer chrome all round. When I run it I'll just get some JC black wheels as I'm not fussed then.

Am I likely to find a slipper clutch?
Although the photo doesn't show, it has what I believe is the MMS white (delrin?) spur gear shaft which is fine but as I want to run it I would rather be safe then sorry.

Only other thing I'd really be looking for is the rear shocks. I have seen them come up a couple of times but missed them :(

Any pointers appreciated.

The chrome wheels seem to be as rare as hens teeth. I have a set for my XLS that a previous owner has badly painted over - I'm hoping to restore them as finding replacements seems unlikely with my tiny budget...

MMS nylon drivetrain bits are very strong and far better than the standard setup.

I like the look of the front upper wishbone mods to give some camber adjustment. Very creative.

The bosscat slipper assembly will fit in that.....

With regards to the wheels, I'm getting mine re-chromed. It can be done!

Are you at Worksop Keith? I've got a box full of vintage schumacher stuff I can bring for you to take a look.. The wheels come up now and again but its rare. The chrome was only sprayed on the originals so you could just do that..

Got a couple of avenues to chase for shocks and will try and hunt out a Bosscat slipper.
Didn't realise the chrome wheels were painted :o Probably explains why it always fell off so easily...Will get a tin of paint as that will surfice for when it's on the shelf.

New body/undertray/wing/belt covers have arrived :drool:

James, unfortunately I'm not doing the Worksop series this year but keep hold of that box ;)

The upper arm mod is as basic as it gets! It's only a basic servo mount block screwed onto the top arm with a threaded rod into the end. Works well though :)

Does anybody recognise the shell?

Looks generally nice and clean Keith. Surprised to see Kyosho shocks rear and std fronts, most went one way or the other!! usually Kyosho both ends!!

Do you know what chassis / top deck it is?? Being black, i'm assuming it's not standard, unless someone got carried away with black paint!!

I have a procat in my spare room, I really must get round to restoring it, been planning on doing it for years. That has some white top front wishbones that intentionally have turnbuckles for camber!! Just need to get a few bits and get it tidied up. Needs the front gearbox runners, that have been rare for years!

Well, I've made a bit of progress with this.
Got some rear shocks thanks to Lowry in Germany :thumbsup:
Also a friend of mine managed to find a NIP Bosscat (I think) slipper :wub

Have started taking it apart and found that the top deck is actually cracked in 3 places :o It screws down flat when built and for on the shelf I wouldn't be worried about it but if I'm going to run it then it throws a bit of a spanner in the works. Especially as it's black and another top deck won't match the chassis now...

Does that instruction sheet for the slipper have further printing on the back?
If so could post a pic.
I'm also restoring an XLS and want to fit a slipper.
I've got a load of used parts on the way that I think includes slipper bits but would like to understand how it all fits together.

Pretty sure I will have the instructions for the slipper when mine arrives from Dan!

Edit - was talking about the procat option slipper with the belleville washers... not the bosscat one..
