Team Xtreme, manufacturers of the Predator X11 4WD electric buggy brought some of the first production examples of their new 'big bore' shock absorbers to the recent Talywain BRCA National.
Nathan Ralls has been testing the shocks behind closed doors for a while now, but has finally started to race the car in public - first time out at the recent South East regional, and a win for the new X11 driver with these new shocks.

The new shock absorbers are the same length but Team Xtreme have maxxed out the diameter to the limits of what would fit within the existing range of springs (meaning predator owners don't need new springs).
Team Xtreme had this to say about the new shocks:
After extensive testing by Team Xtreme we are proud to announce new bigger bore shocks with 25% larger oil capacity, the main advantage of the shocks is the ability when tuning to allow for a far more supple feel across bumps whilst still allowing more pack, this enables the car to handle larger jumps which seem to becoming the trend in off road racing nowadays. The new shocks are obvious in design thanks to the striking blue anodised coating along with Team Extremes now signature orange anodising on the cartridge. All parts for the shocks are available from Team Xtreme as of now with options available from all spares to either pairs of shocks or a full set.
With any set of shocks bought Team Xtreme will send out a setup for the x11 to help you get a running start. These are still being finalised and developments are happening all the time so keep an eye on the setup section of www.oople.com (http://www.oople.com) for the latest setups from the team and also in the news section for more developments that will follow shortly

at first i thought so myself but it would be really hard to adjust them due to thew shocks being very close together on the car so the spacers are a much easier idea at that point

If the shocks diameter has been increased, but the original springs still manage to fit, then wouldn't the springs now be rubbing on the shock bodies?
Wouldn't want to rub off all that blue anodising :(

bender... the shocks are the same diametre on the outside, but the inside has had more material taken away thus making it a larger capacity shock... if that makes sense?
at least i think thats right? cant wait to get mine, really need them for next weeks regional at southport :p

the external diameter is bigger also. The springs are short, so you don't really get the same sort of bending you do with longer springs - hopefull body rubbage won't be an issue.

thanks for clearing that up jimmy

Threaded shocks wouldnt work on a Pred as the rear shocks are usually run with a small pre-compression spring. There being a small spring platform that needs to slide up and down the shock body in between the two springs. A threaded body would stop this working; unless you only threaded it part way.
I notice in Jimmy's piccies that there isnt a platform between the two springs ... not sure if this will be available on production models?
With regards to the anodising my old shocks (X10) don't appear too shabby after quite a bit of use so I guess; as its a surface treatment rather than a paint finish, it will last ok.
Just had another look at Jimmy's photos and it looks like there isnt any room for a spring platform; so maybe the spring ends may runb on the shiney anodising after all.
Cheers,
Ian

1. they'll fit most if not all Preds that have been around since day 1 in 93
2. see 1st post
The new shock absorbers are the same length
3. £35 I've heard a pair.
note they come without the Sliding Platforms for the rear pre compression springs.
This would have entailed a new set of springs to suit the big bores and exteme say have maxxed out the diameter to the limits of what would fit within the existing range of springs (meaning predator owners don't need new springs).

I have enjoyed reading all your reviews, so if you review it, then I suppose
you own it also.
2 people at my local track have a predator X10. Now one of those guys
are buying parts to upgrade to the X11. Yes I'm talking about Wes.
I found out last night after me and wes both ate a baconator, that
he is sponsored by maxamps also, because he has the stickers on his
predator to prove it. Still, I'm glad me and wes have tottally different cars
to make racing more interesting.

hmmmmmmmmm suddenly being sponsered by dc vodka makes me very happy  but back on topic. there will be a setup posted on oople very shortly as a starting point for the new shocks
Thanks Chequered Flag Racing. I was thinking of using them on on of my TC also. The factory ones leak like a sieve. I really like how smooth the shocks are on my X10 and my sons XRS but to run them on these tracks here you have to run thick oil. This should allow a more even flow.

no leaking so far so must be a good thing.that is the basic principle for using the larger body so should be good for your tourer as well as ya x10 and xrs
