A familiar story to many of you I think. Bloke in 30's drags out old RC stuff from loft to play with young Son. Get's carried away, decides that racing is calling once again and decides to take an old car along to blow away the cobwebs rather than buying new. Then, using the power of man-maths, ends up completely rebuilding the car and developing it over time for probably many times the cost of just buying a current car!

Anyway, here we are. I bought a C2 Team from JACKOR33 which he had been racing in a vintage series and decided that would be the basis of my competition re-debut after nearly 20 years. As my driving skills would be very rusty there was no point in immediately splashing out on fancy brushless and lipo technology, so I borrowed a brushed 14T motor and a pair of 4500ma Nimh packs and set to work...

Wanting the battery pack down the centre, I decided to raise the rear bulkhead slightly to accommodate it. This allowed the usual brace to be used.

I then replaced the standard lwb rear wishbones and hubs with the works versions.

I chose a hybrid C1/C2 front end in order to create a long wheelbase more in keeping with today's trends. This will probably be more important when I add more power.

The pro diff was fully rebuilt and the transmission reassembled and mounted to the chassis. The bulkhead and transmission housing would need to be re-drilled later to allow for the raised bulkhead position.

A set of vari-shocks were rebuilt with the all important aluminium housings and fitted. Note that virtually the whole car is rebuilt with high tensile allen screws, new nyloc nuts and washers on just about everything in an attempt to keep damage to a minimum.

As I intend to make many changes over the coming months, I didn't want to drill more holes into the chassis to fit the servo and it wouldn't fit where holes had already been drilled. So I made a top deck to mount the servo to which had the added benefit of bracing the steering pivots to improve efficiency.

The electrics were installed and a broken XLS bumper modified to fit the bulkhead. This is only temporary while I learn how to drive again.

And finally ready to race with JC racing wheels, a choice of green or yellow minispike tyres, a range of springs and a complete spare standard C2 front end if the wheelbase proved to be too long.

Side by side with my mate's modern day SV at Eden Park yesterday, where I managed 8th in the B final in very frosty conditions on a very complicated circuit layout which didn't suit my lack of driving skills at all!

And so on to the next round of developments...
