I myself suffer from bad hearing, which is why I got a good clear speech program installed alongside BBK.
Makes a big difference compared to stock BBK, I'll dig out the package name for those interested.
Otherwise I look at the results board and see when I am off the stagger. Have had times when I have be later leaving the stagger or late on the tone in the finals because I can't hear.

Milton keynes club have developed a traffic light system controlled by the race software to help drivers like jay :-)
if you want their contact details , drop me a pm :-)

I was born deaf but reagained some hearing,i count with the beeps nd then watch the lead car nd try to react with him as he will want to get the best start, now there are alot of proplems with this method 1 if 1st place makes a bad start i make a bad start 2 if guy in front of me makes a bad start then theres a chance of bumping him etc etc,one thing ive learned it to go with the pack but dnt dive in all guns blazing as u wil most probably make sum places up at the first corner iv u drive slightly defensive for the first couple of corners. Wen i first started my dad used to tap me on the shoulder wen the buzzer went, but that again bring its own problems. The traffic light system mentioned above sounds a really gd idea, just whish my clubs have it.but i cant ask anymore from the clubs i race at as iv recently been made disabled and they have really supported me in everyway from moral support to getting ramps made to help get on the rostrum.

Cant someone design a small portable traffic light system for yourself to plug into race controll pc`s so you can then see a set of lights werever you go.

At my local onroad club (Milton Keynes Radio Controlled Touring Cars (http://www.mkrctc.org.uk/)), they does the traffic lights which is great help... I think other drivers at this club use this light as well.
but I often travels to other clubs which doesnt have the lights.. i have to adapt other racers's reaction...
