View Full Version : Sv2 tight and notchy transmission after initial build

I'm building my new sv2 kit at the moment but I'm not happy with the freeness of the transmission. The gears feel very notchy and when you spin the transmission with the wheels on there is a rough clicking sound that suggests the gears are not meshed correctly.
I completely stripped down the transmission again paying fine care to the instructions and once rebuilt I'm still suffering the same issue. I did notice that the transmission housings do not fit together all that well leaving a small gap between when screwed together.
The only thing I have done not instructed in the manual is to add a few spots of Associated black grease to the gears to lubricate them as I have with all my cars over the years.

Has anybody else suffered any issues like this and can give me advice of what to do or does it sound like a manufacturing issue with the gears?

I'm aware it does say in the manual that there may be a tight spot on the gears after the initial build but this seems far more severe to me.

Any help would be great

Chris

First time you run the car the top spot will go. Then it's a free and smooth transmission

Thanks for the advice lads. I was just a little concearned as I've never built a car with such a tight transmission from the off before. I do hope it will be ok once run in.

I have just built mine and experienced the same. Diff seems similar. First race Sunday so everything should break in then.

Mine was exactly the same, the diff was slipping also but after a quick run the diff tightened up and is smooth as any diff I've ever had!

Strange but true!
