@ 75 I get a free night out http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

BLOOD DONONATIONS (http://www.blood.co.uk/) not my age

been doing since I was the legal age to do so

I took to it as I was racing motorcycles @ the time so figured I may need it sometime. But as things panned out I didn't and haven't. But next week I may. You never know.

do you donate?

YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE so if you don't pop along and have a go. It doesn't hurt honest. Worst I've had was a tingle in the arm when they touched a nerve.

if not why not ?

You may need it or have had the need in the past.

So if you've had to receive and your feeling more grumpy than usual you may have some of my bad blood in you :p

I'm up to my 29th donation now - 30 in a few weeks time.

No excuse (unless a medical one) not to do it. It takes an hour at most and can save a life - you never know when it could be you OR a member of your family that needs to be on the receiving end.......

And it doesn't hurt - all you feel is a scratch which is no worse than we all get from time to time.

Just do it.

pic of my arm is after 17hrs after the event

worst part is pulling the plaster of, it removes a few of those little hairs

I used to give all the time back at university - but I can't give any more in the UK or the USA after having malaria a few times in Africa... Quite annoying, really.

I remember we used to get free t-shirts and tickets to the zoo in San Diego for giving - as well as doughnuts and orange juice... Pretty good deal, really!

tymill, your location says London, and I presume you are into off road? Did you know we have the Nation Series coming to Eden Park in Croydon this weekend????

Come along and watch the circus, haha.

Oh, and things have changed ALOT as far as donating is concerned, it may be worth checking to see if things in the past that stopped you giving are now different:)

I'm only on donation 4 now, but that was because of your initial post Glen  I'd been meaning to do it for years but kept making excuses up.

I've since found out I'm special (my Mum always told me that!) as I'm O- but have minimal antibodies etc. on my blood so I'm exclusively used in Neonatal Intensive Care (I've got the NEO-rr marker on the back of my form). I'm now going to keep giving as long as I can.

I made it to 36 pints - and then for some reason they deciced that whenever they visited my town they would only ever do it on a Tuesday - which I can't make.

If they varied the days they visited I'd donate again in an instant - surely I can't be the only one in the same boat? Can't see the wisdom of not varying the days.

And on the odd occasion plans have changed and I have been able to make it, I've been turned away at the door as "we're not taking walk-ins".

Funny - I thought you wanted my blood that's why you keep advertising!!!

Hi
Nice thread and to a whorthy cause, but not wanting to be a wet blanket but If you are already there giving blood take the time and register to be a donor.

I have just gone through a heart transplant, been i the hospital 3 weeks and looks like I can get the weekend at home... awesome as I have been climbing the walls here.

Giving blood is great but have a think about giving someone a new life as well

I thought this pics sums it up pretty well

A friend of mine has recently become a platelet donor, there is an urgent need for this as not everyone is able to donate platelets. They have a really short shelf life too so your donation will be saving lives within 5 days!

I've been told anyone can be tested for suitability at their next donation session; you just need to ask the nurse during the question and finger prick session and they draw off an extra vial for testing during the donation.

Worth a try :)

Mrs oOple

Apparently delicate lady veins such as my own are not suitable for platelet donations, they like big chunky man veins - grrr!

Tried out the new chairs - comfortable for me but apparently the staff are struggling with them. It seems that whoever designed the chair has never given nor taken blood. My donor session set my PB time though so something helped.

93 not out.

Staff at the meeting also mentioned that blood donors now have NO upper age limit for donating. So if your fit and healthy, young or old pop along to the next session near you.

Also met up with fidspeed at the GT12 national at MB Models. Nice to meet up with a fellow donator

There last Friday for 103rd donation

One guy was there doing his 100th on his birthday so the staff had a little sing song for him and gave him a little cake.

Had to miss one earlier in October due to man flu:cry:

Only takes an hour of your time to donate

So go on

Do something amazing

Great post + plasma

It’s mad that I live I tried to donate blood in Switzerland where I work and they won’t allow it due to BSE.....

Well done much kudos. Really altruistic
