Hi Oople Fans,

I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere previously, but I haven't been able to find any info on this subject

I'm looking to rebuild my shocks and am looking at adding some tapered pistons as an upgrade as I know there are benefits, but am not sure which is best:-

Single Tapered
Dual Tapared

I understand that the taper will help speed up the shock's reaction in the direction of the tapering, but am not sure if it's best to have this affect on only one direction e.g. rebound or on both shock actions? :eh?:

Any advise would be appreciated :)

taper on the rebound side so it can recover faster :)

Tricky one. No point in the dual taper - that defeats the purpose.

In the world of motocross it is normal to have the bike set up with less compression damping than rebound damping. The effect of this is that the bike is less 'upset' by bumps offering better forward momentum.

Having said that, the previous poster is right in as much as the rebound has to be quick enough to recover for the next bump.

Experiment!

So would the dual tapering simply provide a much faster reaction in that direction, so if in both directions it would provide better bump handling? But for a sustained impact, such as a jump, it would behaive the same as no tapering?

That was my thought as to the reasoning for dual tapering, but as I said, I may be wildly wrong!

Check out the MIP Pistons:

http://realshocks.com

These provide different levels of "resistance" depending on piston speed.

HTH
