Hi all,

I was running an LRP Vector Bonded 6.5T Motor on an 81 Spur Gear & a 22 Pinion, which seemed to work well.
I've recently upgraded to the NEW Orion 2008 Spec Vortex Sintered 6.5T Motor, which I tried my existing 81/22 Gearing, but seemed to rev-out early on the main straight of Tracks. I managed to find a Team Orion Gear Ratio Chart(eventhough I think it was for the Ver1 Motors), which said I should be on a 81,19........I ended up trying this but found it was even worse, as it was far too punchy & had nothing on the straights. I have been running on a 81/23 ever since, which seems to have improved it slightly, but I feel that its still revving out too early, I just wondered if anyone else out there is having difficulties on getting the Gearing right with their 2008 Vortex 6.5T Motor? I was tempted to try a 24 Pinion.

Cheers

24/81 on a 7.5 sintered in X6 which runs the same internal as the S2 I believe

sintered can be geared up, stick it on 24 and see how it goes

Hi Josh,

Was your 6.5T Sintered an Orion Vortex?

From experience of using the Vortex in Touring Cars as well, they always seem to be Geared a fair bit different to any other make of Motor.......I dont know why? They are an awesome Motor when Geared right though :-)

gear up... i've found that gearing the motors higher results in getting the power down smoother, making the car easier to drive, and faster over a run. try 24/25 pinion

Hi all,

Does anyone know what would be the best gearing for an Orion Vortex(2008 Spec) 5.5T Motor in an S2?

81 Spur Gear/? Pinion

A 5.5 will probably be to fast in a 2wd on most tracks but I run 23/82 :D

This configuration Only for 1 track in ARENDONK because there is a long straight

Hi Mat,

You run 23/82 with your 5.5T?.........I did'nt realise that you can get an 82T Spur Gear:o

I was running a Vortex 6.5T on 23/81 at Marston last Sunday, which seemed really slow on the main straight, to everyone else........I've tried all different Gear ratio's with it, but does'nt seem to make much of a difference, thats why I've ended up upgrading to a 5.5T.

I ended up going for 22/81 with my 5.5T, but I have'nt had chance to try it yet............but if you recommend me to go on 23/81 or 82? then I'll give that a try:D

Cheers.

Dean, what timing have you set your speedo and motor at?
No idea what you should be running or how to set it on an lrp / orion motor combination, but could that be the cause of your problems?

Hi wacker1
I run a losi spur & slipper on my car which is why I run 82 ;)
I found when I used the vortex 5.5 brushless you had to gear up alot to get the speed! Try a 25/6 or try turning the timing up.

Hi Warped,

I'm using the LRP Sphere 2007 Spec Speedo, which I've heard that it comes with a fair bit of Factory set Timing as Std & I've also been using it on Punch Setting 5(out of 8)........as for the Motor, I had been advised to adjust the Timing down to between the B & C Tabs of the Motors Terminals........as thats meant t be the optimum for the LRP/Orion combination.

Eventhough , I'm running the Losi Slipper Cup & Spring, the rest of it, including the Spur Gear, is still Associated.......so i'll have to make do with the 81T for now.
I'll take your advice then Mat & try Gearing up abit.......maybe start off with a 24T to begin with, if thats no good, then I'll try a 25/26T:thumbsup:

Cheers
