My ball diff outdrives on my DEX210 are knackered but for a set it's £18?! Does anyone know where they are available cheaper or is that the price we pay? If that's the case then I may just get a complete geared diff seeing as they're £25

not the first time i've heard about the out drives being trollied.
although when this happened to a friend and fellow club racer his outdrives were worn fairly pre-maturely after only a few runs with a brand new kit.
TD I believe replaced them for him. so it may be worth giving them a call depending on how old yours are.

It is quite shocking the pricing of some of the TD parts
the allow rear hubs for the 210 from TD are £45 but the exotek ones(which are almost identical and are black(instantly cooler) are half that price @ £25

I've had this problem twice now with mine. I only race between 1 and 2 times a month. I showed mine to Mr Doughety at the last Worksop meet and he told me to send an email with a picture of it to there support team and they would send out new ones for me because they shouldn't wear that quick.

The thing with mine aswell is that only one side has worn and its the same side twice:(

I've yet to email them because I've been busy with work, but I'm hoping to get it done sometime this coming weekend.

had the same problem myself.

emailed in with a pic, and TD responded asking for my kit details etc ... nothing since.

They've been great previously, but not mega impressed on this occasion.

Forked out on some new ones myself.

Try to do a home-brewen hardening process on a new set and see how they last? :) Afaik, the outdrives of the AE B4 are not hardened and I can imagine some other brands (like Durango) would prefer to prevent such processes (if possible) to save on costs. Not everyone seems to have these problem, right?

So that would suggest that in certain circumstances it does wear much quicker (lubrication without boots on, the fact that the driveshaft doesn't 'slide' much in and out of the outdrive, extreme suspension angles, tracks with a lot of corners to one side, powerful motors, high punch settings, high grip, etc).

And despite of the potential for circumstances that increases wear, it's pityful and unusual to hear it's this bad :( That outdrive looks pretty awful brooksy!

It is.....this side has been in a year now and it's just starting to show signs of wear.

FYI a hardening process takes the metal to over 1200 degrees. You need a purposely made oven, then another one for stress relief, and an oil/water bath.

I can tell you all outdrives/wheel axles/driveshafts including AE's are hardened. It could happen that some parts may have not stayed in the oven long enough, or that the oven wasn't up to temp yet for a specific batch, or the parts weren't pit in the oil/water bath early enough.

My point being here, if your outdrives wear too fast then you should contact TD, but don't try to do a home made hardening as it'll achieve nothing.

As for the processes AE uses, it's from what I've heard anyway... Never mind that, you could always try on an old knackered set if quenching hardens then any further, right? :) After all pretty hefty temperatures can be produced with pretty minimal equipment (though control may be difficult).

That said I do agree it is up to TD should find the solution to it.

slightly blurry pic but clearly shows wear on right compared to left

I have this problem as well, also both my gear diff's have done this too! The metal is weak for sure!

I'm on my 2nd set, these were free issue from TD after I emailed them. Unfortunately these have also worn excessively on the right hand exactly like the first.

I'll contact TD again as it's now obvious that it's not a duff batch but it's a material issue.

Hopefully some TD drivers can shed some light or even better get me some more replacements. At £18 a pair it's completely unacceptable, this is the type of thing you'd expect from a lesser manufacturer.

Tut tut TD get it sorted!!!!!!:mad::mad:

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the delayed response.

we have had some pretty big structure changes at TD over the last month with a few new hires, in the long term this will allow us to respond to things in the manner than you should expect from a high-level brand that Team Durango is.
But in the short term, we have some challenges of cross-training and everyone getting up to speed in their new roles and procedures to please bear with us.

Specifically regarding the wear on the outdrives, this is clearly an issue with manufacture that we have raised and should be corrected for future production.
This however doesn't fix items that are on the shelves right now. If you have this problem, email support@team-durango.com with a photo of your worn outdrive and we will provide a replacement.
I have pre-warned our support about these emails.

Both halves of the diff are specified to be the same material and the same heat-treat process, something didn't happen as it should have done in the manufacture of one side of the outdrive.
The material and specification isn't the issue as you can see from the other side of the diff, that has a wear rate that is more expected.

If you continue to experience problems with the replacement, please get in contact again with photos and details, we will replace that one too.

Another thing to note, as much as our team drivers are there to help out with setups etc etc, they do not have all the information about manufacture and materials. I'm sure any of our team drivers will gladly try to help anyone out, but if you have a QC or part failure problem, raise it directly with Team Durango or local distributor

You should be able to buy Team Durango products with the confidence that you are buying into a quality product and brand, quality both design AND manufacture.
If you have anything that you feel doesn't meet this level of quality, contact us and we can work towards resolving your issue.

many Thanks

Chris Doughty

Just seen your reply here Chris, I'll get a photo when I'm home next week. Thanks all and Team Durango for the good service :)

Just out of interest... have people been getting the same issues with the geared differential outdrives? Just wondered really because I may get one if these have been lasting ok?

Good response Chris, thanks.

However, as per my above post I have previously emailed the support email address, pictures and all, but its now gone quiet.

IMHO some sort of support ticket system is needed so customer issues don't fall down the cracks, like mine.

Why don't TD give the replacements to the team drivers to hand out at race meetings as they're not getting back to people quick enough.

What's everyone meant to do? Shelve the car until they get a response because that's going to happen to me. If this does happen then I can see myself buying a Yokomo. Shame I like my 210 as well but no point if you can't run it.

Im not having a pop at you Chris but TD need to realise that this is going to stop people racing as no one will buy the current stock knowing that this issue exists.

I spoke to Chris on the phone yesterday regarding the outdrives and my broken chassis. Nice chap. He was going to speak to someone about checking my e-mail and get back to me later, which didn't happen. Called back and spoke to someone different and he asked me to send over my photo's which i've done and they would be shipping replacement parts within 24hrs or so.

So, lets see if it works out...

I'm sure it will, I've found the service from TD to be very good so far, so I guess they'll fix this (not just the parts, but their slow response lately) :)

I've emailed support@team-durango, guess what? Nothing!

This weekend I emailed sale instead at the lack of backup. I suspect that that's not going to make a difference.

I work in the service industry and if our response was this slow we'd shut down or be sacked. This so called reshuffle excuse has been going on since they were bought out.

Well that's not going to wash with me anymore, in my eyes it's just less than satisfactory customer service plain and simple.

What am I expected to do not race my 210 whilst TD get their thumb out of their arse. Due to the lack of response it looks like I'll be doing just 4wd at Worksop next. Thanks TD for ruining my race weekend really thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.

Remember TD it's the general public that buys your product that pays your wages. Needless to say you've already got my money from the initial purchase of the kit so that's ok to ignore people.

Just an update on my own situation.

Well i had NO reply to my e-mails, nor any parts arrive. I have just called again and apparently my replacements will be sent out soon....

I asked Stuart if he knows whether the hardness issue has been fixed but the are a little unsure as they don't really know what batch/batches they are bad in. But he assured me that they will continue to replace peoples outdrives if they continue to wear until the problem is fixed.

I got 2 sets of replacement outdrives in the post yesterday they must be from the same batch.

They should last a few months or fingers crossed one set has both outdrives hardened properly and not just one.
