Hello guys,
I spoke to Matthew White last sunday at the Belgian GP (Kampenhout) about the release date of the Cat SX. He told me the Schumacher boys said before the end of july (2008:woot:). Maybe this is old news but I thought I should share this.

I have read this somewhere else, so hopefully it is true, although I wouldn't be surprised if the release date slides into August as we were first told it would be May / June.
The German importer told me something about late July/mid-August, so it must arrive sometime in the near future...we'll wait and see!
Maybe next year for me, I still like my SP, strange thing...;)

Yup no kit is ever on time regardless of manufacture it seems.
CAT SX looks stunning though, I can not wait to get mine and get a review done
I was told last week that the cars are all ready to go apart from shock shafts. I think they are on the way from china
End of July is the predicted date :)

Pretty good result at the Euro's for the new CAT, it's obviously 100% competitive.

Yeah the Euros result is amazing, congratulations to Simon if he reads this. Clearly shows the car is capable of getting up to serious positions, 3rd in one of the legs / challenging for second.
Puts my mind at ease on that front, if it's good enough for that it's more than good enough for my skill level.
End of July sounds great

@glypo : all three cars were scoring top 15 results Grant and myself were just that little unlucky to jump into the single digit results. A little more experience
would have helped a lot.

Sorry Cruise. By congratulating Simon I did not mean to discredit the other Schumacher drivers. You all done a great job, congratulations all for going so well with the new car.
Cruise
15-07-2008, 03:24 PM
I didn't understand it in that way.I just wanted to make clear for what the car is capable in the hands of not so gifted drivers ( like me:blush: )

Aaaawwwww! No need for understatement, Ralf! Good job, guys!

Ha ha, well the car i've been running clocked up a fair few miles in not so many days. My house to Belgium, then i thrashed it within an inch of it's life!! (Si kept telling me i was over driving all weekend - ME, how dare he! Never!!)
Then it had to endure the high speed journey with Kev and Jon from Belgium to Italy - fortunately it doesn't seem to have been scarred by being present when Kev was so blatently breaking Swiss Law
As for it's current location - No idea!
Cruise
15-07-2008, 08:17 PM
It left Italy in better condition as it arrived there alongside with Grants car to be analyzed and then be refurbished by Phil Booth.
@ Matt Phil wasn't that happy about the state of the car.

Matt,
The Show Car, yours and Grants were all strapped lovingly into the back of Glyn's van. I believe they made it home ok (Unlike Preddy and Barney ) and are now residing happily on Ebay. Lol:p

Does anyone know how many parts are different on the LIPO version compared to the NIMH one?
Just thinking as it looks a tight fit to get any kind of saddle LIPO in the 4+2 One, so with it being out before a decision on allowing LIPO's in the Uk next year, I guess some people will like a "conversion pack" available to convert the NIMH to the LIPO one for next year if they are allowed?

According to 'Robin Schumacher' himself, it's just the chassis that changes!!
MattW

You need a different chassis, battery strap, strap mounting spacer/locator, servo mount spacers. Fairly sure that's the lot.

Hey guys,
Just wondering. There are two kits avaliable.
I want to buy a kit, and preferably want the lipo version. Its ok to use during the winter series' but im nt sure, cos I also want to do regional series' but feel lipos might not be allowed.
Do you think cells would fit the lipo car???
I'm confused?????
thanks
Chris :)
DaveG28
13-08-2008, 12:25 PM
I was thinking of trying to fit minh in the Lipo version as well actually, as a backup if Lipo isn't eventually allowed!!
Also, which lipo is in it in the pics? Wouldn't mind knowing what sizes fit!

I know the press release photo's have the Core 5000, but all Roar approved LiPo's are within 1mm of the same dimensions so I would look at the Roar LiPo approval list...
But the Core's are the bomb!;)

Ahh does the core have moulded "bumps" underneath? If so presumably the LIPO version of the cat still has "cell holes" for these to drop into?
Hope that made sense!?
MattW
15-08-2008, 11:34 AM
Cat lipo chassis doesn't have std cell slots in it - or at least the one i have doesn't. The core 5000 lipo is flat bottomed - not sure about the 3200.
DaveG28
15-08-2008, 12:03 PM
Cheers Matt, that's great, think the 3200 has bumps, hence my question as I assumed the 5000 did too!
Will a LiPo battery with the Mi3 LiPo locators attached fit inside?

Tempted but not sure, I've had such a rubbish year results wise that I'm thinking of trying all the 4wds at some point then picking one for next year based on reliability/ease of use/speed!? Although it means I'm turning into the Arthur Daley of rc!
At least I'm not like Vmag though, I actually do buy them and don't ask which one will kick anothers ass!

To be fast with a car you have got to know it, and to know it takes ages. Changing cars like you are doing prooves nothing Dave as the worst one may feel good with an accidentally good setup on it, sorry mate. You need to get one, any, and stick with it for several years even.
I agree with 99% of what chris is saying there and it is the sensible option, its like a marriage, first you look after it, possibly want to shag it and spend time with it, then once you know it you do enough to keep it happy and ticking over and then you see the newest latest and greatest out there then comes the divorce, you get bored fancy a dabble and eventually results decline and you have to move on.
Having said that the aero was like a one night stand, you use it a lot in a short space of time and realise its not happening.
Being serious though, some cars you can drive well and just not be fast. ;)

I do agree about sticking with one, and I was careful to say things other than speed in what I'm looking for too, I know it takes ages to get the most out of one, it's more strength/ease of use, what they're like to build/fettle, how long belts/diffs last etc! Then whatever I stick with I'll then work on speed with! I've not got the thumb skills to win anyway so weirdly speed is not my top priority, as long as it is basically sound!
Then, whenever there's a new Tam I'll just use that anyway, rendering all this pointless!
Anyway, off topic, any news on a release date?

Modelsport now showing 22nd Sept, were showing 3rd sept previously!
I heard last night it's late September / early October now.
Sorry to say but I cancelled my order and bought a Durga. Didn't like letting down the chap I placed the order with but I couldn't keep waiting, let alone find the extra £200!

Madness! Went to get a Lipo pack today and some bits and pieces to find my model shop has spares for the CAT SX. Fantastic... I need spares for a car which you can't get hold of.
I think Modelsports date is a little late. Schumacher had a manufacturing error on a component so there is basically a couple of weeks delay until this is sorted. Everything else is all ready to go apparently.
I seriously can not wait to get my CAT SX. I was excited thinking I would get it last week but then there was this error. Ah well, I'd rather have a well made car than one with flaws. I will try and get my review done as soon as I get the car
p.s. M-K-Racing (http://www.m-k-racing.com) is £10 cheaper than Modelsport. It's the cheapest place to buy a CAT SX from.

Really......I thought we were at £309.95 to be honest , but then we did only confirm our price 10 days ago, rather than show our hand early like normal and let the other shops try to beat us.
We will be stocking both versions of the car and the full range of spares and speed secret options. Currently we still have kits available to pre-order from the first batch that we have coming in if anyone needs one.

Yes really. So rather than have balls and display your price early you waited to try and jump everyone at the last minute, then shoot down me for saying somewhere else is cheaper?
Well last week you had it at £314.95 as far as I am aware. And now you say your price at £309.95 is the cheapest? Well I stand by my comment that MK is the cheapest place to buy the CAT SX. Because it is.
After spending what felt like a lifetime navigating around your website I managed to find the CAT SX (ignoring the rest of my rant, I'm in a bad mood - I really think your website needs an update), add it to basket and see you charge a nice £6.50 for p&p taking your price to £316.45. After finding the CAT SX on MK Racing homepage instantly, and seeing free next-day delivery it's clear that MK is £1.50 cheaper...
Nice try.

Take a chill pill mate. I have not shot no-one down, just pointed out that we are £5 cheaper, thats all. You talk like I have tried to kidnap your family or somthing, far from it.
Our price of £309.95 has been our price since word go, we only put it up on our website 10 days ago since this was the first chance we had to, no other reason. The same reason we have not yet put up the Kyosho MP9, AE RC8T etc, we just have not got around to it.
We are usually the first shop to show on our price on anything that we sell (and usually the first to get it), it is normally the other shops who "sniper" us to be fair..... history proves it.
I hear your comments about our site (i have to disagree with them) but if you could not find the Cat that easy maybe it is the user at fault. It is in the Preview pages, for forthcoming releases, it is in the Schuamcher kit catologue pages (amongst the 10 or so kits they do, not that many to troll through) AND it is in the full Schumacher section, all three could be found in less than 60 seconds by someone who has never seen our site before. And if you tyoe CAT SX in the search it is there too!!!! We prefer to have the largest website with more stock/choice on it to be fair and it is more up to date than most also.
As far as postage goes, our service is second to NONE, we charge our price for the goods and IF a customer needs it posting then that is a seperate service, for those who pop in to our store they save. IF your chosen store post it for one price, then would you be happy to pay the same if you popped in to collect it, probably not, that is why we charge for delivery, we do extra for it, the customer pays extra and recieves a service of the highest quality (just read the numerous threads on here from tons of happy customers who back this up)
At the end of the day, you stated somthing that was wrong and it was in my interest to correct it since it was us who were cheaper in this case. If you have ordered yours from MK good luck to you, I hope you continue to support your local shop, I am not asking people to cancel orders and come flocking to us, but for those who are looking at one, we were cheaper. We have three pre-sold and 5 spare coming in on the day of release. Of the three that are pre-sold two are collecting them from the shop they day thay come out (since we are collecting ours) They will have them as quick as ANYWHERE can supply them, they will pay £309.95 which IS cheaper than ANYWHERE.
No nice try, just facts, maybe best to take out your self confessed bad mood out elsewhere other than on us.

A) DMS are easily the best place I have dealt with for getting spares/letting me know alternatives etc. As long as you have part numbers the website works fine too!
B) Sorry though Darren, I have seen a price in your preview page of £314.95 for ages!!! I know because I was looking at who was cheapest (which you were, I am not sure of MK!?)

£314.95 was never our confirmed price and was only ever shown on the PREVIEW of the LIPO version (when we first added it to our site nearly 6 months ago), the 4 + 2 has always been £TBA until about 2 weeks ago when we confirmed it would be £309.95. We decided that it was messy to have them at different prices so both are now confirmed at the £309.95, this has been live since the same time the price was added to the 4 + 2 version (26th September to be exact according to my website data entry log).
But as you say, not looking to upset or poach anyone, just stating a few facts.

Std kit has plastic gearbox tops as others have said. Lower gearbox casings are all alloy from kit. All pullies are alloy, side gears is one alloy and one plastic. There is 2 different types of front kick up block. to be honest i'm not sure which one comes wtih kit - both are alloy, just kick up that is different.
Can't think of any car that comes with a front one way (diff) and this is no different. Std ball diff here. I have generally run a one way, but i think Si has generally run a diff, with Grant having switched between. Think all the guys at the F2's were running diffs with one way layshaft pully.

Strobe, most is obviously down to personal choice. I haven't seen an "actual" kit as obviously there aren't any at this point.
From a handelling perspective, you ought to think about one ways - just like any other car - either diff or layshaft.
Other than that, there is obviously the alloy top casings to considder, and any amount of titanium you could possibly want to throw at it!!

Jimmy, you konw you love purple
It's actually only the mounting blocks and some shock bits that are purple. The transmission housings are all black/silver.

Does the car not come with a front spool as standard? I thought it was common to have spool front and rear diff now, rather than two diffs. Or even one-way as said.
ZX-5 came with all 3 options out of box IIRC.
MattW
08-09-2008, 09:03 PM
No, doesn't have spool - diff's at both ends, which i think is the kit normal for most off rd cars - well, i know it was Losi, AE, TTech/Extreme.
There is a spool option, but i can't see it being all that popular if i'm honest

My dad anodised my fully hopped up Cat 2000 SE to red, looked awesome! Sold it to some guy in France for £150 a few years ago :(

To be fair I did run a one way for the first part of the year, but pretty much since the euros have ran a front diff. Like Matt says, personal preference really. I like brakes and steering (those of you who have driven my cars will agree) and found i was quicker with the diff.
Front blocks are one add up to try. I ran 10.5 degree blocks but have recently changed to 7's. Other than that only other thing is front and rear anti roll bars. Not sure what the plan for these are so dont quote but imangine they will be released. As for the gear box houses, they are alloy bottoms and the tops are a hop-up.
Any other questions feel free to ask lol!

Well that's good then. But I assume for tight carpet tracks a one-way will be the better option still though? (i.e. it will be worth my while getting this as an option?) I certainly don't see a spool being popular, I was just curious if it was in the box as I had seen it with a few models. I think a spool with off-road not to wise in terms of strain.
I have to ask, and I fear it hasn't changed, is the wing mount still the same? I am really not a fan of the o-ring thingy.
MattW
09-09-2008, 05:07 PM
Well i run a one way virtaully all the time, so for me it would be - but it really is personal preference, like any other car. Like i say, don't think i've ever seen a spool actually available for sale for another car, at least any of the more popular ones - could just be me not looking though.
I have a manual here, and it shows "O ring style" wing mount , so we'll assume it will be in kits.
Nothing wrong with the "O" ring style mounts. Save wings  Maybe nortech can do some super ace "O" rings for the wing mounts

Yeah, that is an option for sure - could manage without the bands and just glue the mount to the part that usually holds the bands.

Try using the "crashback bands" from the old Bosscat instead, one thick band instead of several thinner ones, works a treat, nice and firm mounting and even if the band snaps it is soooo tight in the holder that it still holds the wing on with one half of the loop, so to speak,
Part number is U725Y - Crashback bands

It builds up sweet mate, there were no burs to file, no bits of plastic to snap off tree's, everything is bang on - even the bodyshell and undertray comes cut out!!!!!! Just drill/reem holes.
Before building you'll need a 2mm, 2.5mm and 1.5mm driver, plus a circlip tool. Also a Tamiya nut wrench - you know the ones, everyone has them.
One note, is the ballstud for the servo horn seems to be in the wrong bag - mine was in with the undertray and not where it should be. This may be resolved, but anybody thinking it is missing at the same point I did - open the undertray bag.

what sort of weight will it be with lipo chris and will you balance it out / weigh it down with any lead????
did you get a load of schumacher springs with it or do you plan to use ae/losi springs you might already have? Did you get the alloy gearbox tops?
looking at the layout of the makor components in the chassis, it shouldn't need much balancing left to right, as the motor is in a central position on the chassis, it may nee a little weight to the front though, to maybe bring it back to a NiMH balance, but I wouldn't of thought it is needed....
Maybe, the SX is the first crop of cars to be LiPO ready.... as in chassis setup and balance?

You're likely right there DCM, I guess I was more meaning the weight of the car - I know my Durga was under 2WD weight the last time I ran lipo in it.
a light weight lard arse, I never weighed the DB-01...
I am liking the SX.... and not, lol.... but they seem to be going well, or is it like the Cat2000, designed for our racing surfaces...

I weighed mine prepared for the track (3200 Trackpower) and it was 1490g - so it needs Lead (which is good, I can choose position of weight).
I didn't get any more springs, I have ordered them though. At the moment I only have the yellow springs it came with - so I may end up putting AE springs on as temporary measure - it feels good as it is on the bench. (I love the shocks!)
I haven't upgraded any parts, built with plastic gearbox tops and I also ordered spare tops just incase - I want to run it standard for now unless I find reason to upgrade, right now they look plenty strong enough.

The balance of the chassis is perfect with Lipo - it is designed to be. If cells are put in a Lipi chassis it will be unbalanced - so they went to 4+2 to compensate this.

LOL, build it yourself - even if this is your first kit, its a doddle and you'll feel good about building it, I did with this one. Few simple rules: don't over tighten, don't compromise, make sure things which move do so freely, and threadlock anything that screws into alloy. Oh, and always use a good quality driver of the right size.

Mine fully loaded, ive stated before but just checked it on accurate digital scales and it is 1505g. That is with 3200 Trakpower, GTB, Ko 2143, Futaba Receiver.

guys, upon closer inspection on the main belt(via the pics), it seems to me that the batt wld go under the belt. was wondering if the wires of the lipos wld interfere with the main belt? As u may know, some lipos (i.e. orions) have their wires stick out from the top, which may pose a hindrance to the belts.......

Hey Olivier, hope you are well mate? This was with Minispike-2 on the kit lite wheels and Schumacher Inserts. it will have Pins on shortly which are heavier - i'll weigh again then.
Yes, well spotted. My Trakpower has top loading corally plugs and they would interfere with the belt - but I have tie-wrapped the wires to the under side of the top deck and they clear the belt by a good 5mm. Even though I have left enough slack on the wire for me to plug the cells in before I slide them right back. Im so comfortable with it I forgot about it - its fine - just do apply some thought to it when you build yours. ;)
