Hi all,
Last Sunday (17th) saw myself and Kev attend a committee meeting with MMMRC to discuss a few issues for the year ahead...
1) Summer race calender
We have now agreed to running twice a month (in principal!) sharing the calender with the onroad guys as best we can. This has been easy for most of the year, but a few months are looking tricky with the onroad track being busy with national meetings later in the year. We are doing our best to make sure we fit in much as we can.
Dates are being worked on now and will be released shortly.
2) Regional dates
Once the calender is agreed we will nominate/agree dates as soon as possible. We are as keen as you to get our summers racing planned! So more news to come on this very soon.
3) Parking
We have agreed with MMMRC that parking during race meetings will now be restricted to the (currently grassy, but soon to gravelled over) triangle on the right hand side as you drive in.
The main carpark will now be kept clear for club officials, cafe staff, general vehicle access for safety in the event of an emergency and for other MMMRC club members to gain access to the onroad track/pits for practice when our club day racing is running.
The onroad guys will be adopting the same approach during their club day racing, so the track/parking sharing benefits both parts of the club, as we will now also be able to practice when they are running club day races. :)
4) Winter Wonder last rounds
We have had to adjust the dates of the next 2 rounds of the Winter Wonder series to avoid clashes with the onroad guys (small admin error...ooops!!! :blush:).
Sunday 24th.....now moved to Saturday 23rd March
Sunday 10th.....now moved to Saturday 9th March
Plus...we are going to rebrand the last 2 rounds, replacing the race date on the 24th March with a weekend of work parties, and rebranding the racing on Sunday 7th April as the first of our summer calender...so Saturday 10th March is your last chance to get a score in the winter series...which I will be updated the results to very shortly now!
5) Rostrum placement
We have got approval to move the rostrum back by 2ft away from the track to improve visibility during races. As you all know, it's a little close currently and transmitters often obscure racers views of the track during races, so this will improve things massively on that front!
We propose to do this first thing on Saturday morning, with the help of anyone who is able on the day. Many hands making light work of it hopefully!
6) Work Party Weekend of 23rd/24th March
As mentioned above, we are planning a weekend of work parties to do a number of jobs ahead of the summer season starting:
i) Safety fence/barrier...Once the rostrum is properly placed, build a permanent fence between the track and carpark/pit area. This is a general BRCA rule and an insurance requirement, so needs completing ASAP.
ii) Lay barrier membrane under the joints of the astroturf...we have done some of this already, but have the second half of the track to finish off before the spring growth kicks in!
iii) General site tidying/clearing...Just a general spruce up, improve the joints/ends of the track markings, clear pathways, and areas around the track perimeter.
There are other jobs that still need planning for the track as a whole, but this is our main list for that weekend.
Everyone and anyone is welcome to join us, many hands and all that!!! Thankfully the work is all easy now, nothing like the effort required to lay the astro last year!
