PAYPAL Scam...please read users and beware.

Hi,

We all know about scam emails, but I had this one come to my inbox at 12:20 pm today.

I never made this transaction.

I checked my bank and paypal account...no money removed. However, I did not click on the link shown in the email, although I can imagine some people would.

Almost fooled me, but some obvious and subtle aspects that make this a fake.;) Worryingly, this passed my Junk filter...

I had a similar email this week, apparently confirming an email address I had added to my paypal account, with a link if I hadn't added it. I logged into PayPal and there was no sign of this new email address. As above, looked genuine and I am guessing the link would have taken me somewhere strange to enter my password in full and a few other details the fraudsters wanted!

A simple and easy way to spot a fraud email is that paypal and ebay always state your name which the fraudsters dont know.
So if it does not begin with
Dear Arthur Brain or whatever your name is then its a fraud.

if they do then make sure with your bank and check it up :D

I like to follow the links and fill the boxes with insults and expletives.

Got that one as well and it looked pretty genuine. Did same as you and logged into paypal direct and nothing there.

These scam e-mails used to be really obvious as the grammar and spelling were always awful but I've had a couple recently that I've had to look at twice before deleting. It's really easy when it says its a bank you don't have an account with but when it says it is UPS or some other delivery company and you are waiting for toy cars bits to be delivered you have to engage brain before clicking on anything...

normally fraud emails like this if you look in the details ect. i says something like sent by (some poor guys hacked email) on behalf of paypal.com so if your unsure about the email just have a look in the details.

Yes you are right about clicking on a link without thinking for a moment about it.

I've had FEDEX emails about a package waiting for me etc...but these usually go straight into the Junk box! What almost caught me here is that the mail came to my inbox where I expect all Paypal transactions are confirmed!

Caution. Even following the links can be dodgy. A lot of fraud Emails contain viruses in the links. Best to just leave alone.
