62 plate ford fiesta zetec s idle issue

anyone on here got a new ford? on a cold start is just over 1000rpm on idle, when warm just 1000rpm then when warm under 1000rpm. when warm i get the burble and poping from back box :) doesnt do it on initial start up? is this just the way the engine is coded/mapped by ford?

anyone else have a ford that does this?

Tickover seems about right but im no expert; its a new car so if you have any doubts ring Ford. On here Mark Christopher is a Ford man - he works for them.

sounds about right to me, unless its almost at the point of stalling when warm

You could try a throttle relearn - basically start the car from stone cold and leave it running until the engine fan cuts in (10-15 minutes) - don't touch the throttle in this time.

I assume the relearn procedure for the Fiesta is similar to other cars with electronic throttles

its not that its idling to high it just seams weird that the idle fluctuates so much until warm, unless its codded to do that to warm it up quicker?

prefromance etc is spot on :) its done around 6000 miles so ill just keep an eye on it.

There is no throttle relearn? Only via ids and resetting kam.
Let's start with some basic Info!

What engine and size? Zetec could be car model or engine name.

However it does sound perfectly normal for petrol zetec, no choke so they map it to suit the conditions.

FWIW, the idle speed is generally based on fuel temp, air temp, fuel quality, coolant temp. And a few other parameters, depending on the car.
You'll probably find the idle speed can vary by 6 or 700 rpm. Just try doing a cold start (-30) at 3000m, it'll idle like a bag of spanners but try to hit around 16-1700 rpm. Just to stop it stalling. :)

No point at all in doing that, totally different mapping and emission levels.

Idle will never be 100% stable, too many factors, smart charge can fluctuate rpm by 500 as it charges or not, alternator only outputs when battery needs it, warm up phase, to heat engine quicker for lower emissions, the list is endless.

Ford don't monitor fuel temp on petrols......I don't work with Ford engine development anymore, so don't have a handle on what they monitor now, maybe that's why the idle is so lumpy. ;)
