Guys can anybody recommend me a relevant car batt for outside.

Do I nee anything special considering the chargers charge at 4 or 5 amps, in the old days it was just a normal car batt, but I heard we now need something slightly more powerful

Any ideas

Thanks

Rob

Thanks to Steve Kirk and the gentleman who was sat behind me, for the wishbones I,ll repay you

just about anything will do 5A is nothing for a car or leisure battery.

I got one of these for portability and not having to worry about battery acid

was a little bit cheaper when i bought, but this is probably still a good price.

if you look at sealed lead acid gel types make sure you get one suitable for cyclic applications not standby type

thanks Thark

I presume you charge it everytime we have a meet the night before, and a normal batt charger for a car will suffice correct ?

you need a charger that specifically says it is also suitable for sealed lead acid. they charge at a slightly lower voltage.

I have one of these.

edit that charger is a bit too powerful on full charge i put it on trickle and leave it

this will do fine and is a lot cheaper http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7405392.htm#pdpFullProductInformation

If you want it to last more than a few meetings then s leisure battery is the only way to go. A car batt is designed for high amp discharge but never for long sustained deep discharge. 4-5 charges in a day at a meeting is a pretty considerable feet for a car batt. Leisure batts are designed with this long deep discharge in mind. Not only will you get 10 charges out of 1 batt the batt it's self will give you several seasons use!
However there is another option these days.
Good quality smooth sine wave. Generators are available for about £200 and provide an easy route to power. Especially if camping and doing multiday meets.
I personally would not be without mine now. Going back to heavy lead acid batts is a pain I'd rather not have to deal with!

Unless you get a used one for free (or nearly free) forget a car battery. It simply wont last long when used as we do.

You can get an 85ah Leisure battery for around £50 with a couple of years guarantee. Any charger that has the correct sealed/leisue setting will do. I think mine was only about £20 from Argos.
