Hey guys,
I've asked this same question on the MSUK forums, it doesnt hurt to get answers from a wider audience :)
My nephew is getting serious about his RC hobby having recently starting visiting his local club and wants to make the first step into "proper" RC. He's been using various RC for years since he was a nipper, from the cheap toys to various tamiya kits me and me bro have given him.
Ideally looking for RTR to start with, budget around the £250 region.
Initially he had his eye on the Traxxas Bandit but since then alternative models have been suggested, namely the Associated B4.1, Durango Dex210 and Losi 22.
Any feedback / thoughts / suggestions etc would be appreciated.

Losi 22. Strongest by a long shot IMHO which he'll need.

Losi 22...Strongest...possibly...and it'd need to be...happy to be proved wrong, but not the easiest car to drive/setup for a relative newbie?
B4.1 is a good choice...might not be the strongest, but is still pretty bullet proof, and parts are very easy to get and cheap.
Most people have cut their teeth on a B4.1 at some point so that'd get my vote there!
Hi
The traditional advise is to pop along to your local club and see what is popular there as it will make it a lot easier to get help with set up or borrow a spare when you break it.
However I would strongly suggest you consider the Durango 210 RTR as the moment as MB Models (they have a section on here) has them for £170 on offer at the moment which is a bit of a steal for what you get. You'll need a couple of lipo batteries (£20-25 each if you go for something like the Gen Aces ones which are BRCA legal), a lipo charger unless you already have one (you can pick perfectly adequate ones for £25) and a set of tyres that work at your local club as I can pretty well guarantee that the kit ones will be next to useless (£15). All in pretty much on your budget without the risk of buying second hand.
B4.1 and losi RTR are both fine starter cars. B4.1 has the limitation that it will cost a lot more to convert to mid motor if you want to some time in the future. Personally I'd steer away from the traxxas for racing as they have very limited popularity in racing circles (bordering on non-existance to be honest) so you are going to be on your own in terms of set up and support.
Have fun

+1 Without a doubt at this price

At his local club see what most people run and try and go down the same route as that will help hugely with spares, set-ups and general advice.
If no one at his club runs a losi and he breaks it at the start of the night then that's game over until you can get replacement bits, however if there is someone there running the same car you can borrow bits to keep him going.
Where are you based?
