BRCA Truggy and E8 Championship round 2 Report

Sunday 12th May, time for round 2 of the BRCA Truggy & E8 Championship which this time made a trip up north to Kirkham, Lancashire home of Northern Nitro Radio Controlled (NNRC). Andy (Shrek) and his team have done a lot of work on the track since my last visit.

The meeting started on the dot at 9 o'clock with the E8 Buggies kicking off the meeting. First thing the weather was abit overcast, but we managed to stay dry for the first 2 rounds of qualifying but soon enough the heavens opened up as it got to the afternoon.

So it was then onto the the finals. The E8 Buggy B final had 2 x 10 min legs and the A Final had 3 x 10 Min legs. At the end of the B Final the top 3 places went to
1 Paul Crompton
2 Ashley Coupland
3 Darren Farley

The A Final saw some really close racing from some of the countries top drivers. For most of the 3 legs the top 4 were only split by 4 seconds. Richard Taylor won the first and last leg and Stuart Mahon having a impressive win on his second leg. The 3rd leg was held in difficult conditions not only for the drivers but also for the marshals as the rain was getting heavier. Ben Cosgrove took off his race Director head for the final leg and finished in 3rd place.

The final placing were as follows
1 Richard Taylor
2 Stuart Mahon
3 David Crompton
4 Simon Willetts
5 Richard Barton
6 John Holmes
7 Ben Cosgrove
8 Graham Howard

When the Truggy B race started the rain was getting heavier but the track was standing up to it. The Final duration was for 18 Minutes. The wooden sections became very interesting though and at one point i’m sure Torvell and Dean came past me. It was the Top 4 that was rewarded with a bump up into the A Final.

The Bump ups went to

1 Mark Jackson
2 Allan Bridgeman
3 Andrew Beaumont
4 Peter Hedley

So the big lads started the 30 min final with Jon Howells in TQ. From the start to the finish he stayed in that position and Finished by completing 36 laps. The only other person to complete 36 laps was Graeme Miller. Michael lewis shook off his disappointing result from round 1 of the championship with a 3rd place and achieving the best lap of 47.92 seconds in the final.
The top ten places were as follows

1 Jon Howells
2 Graeme Miller
3 Michael Lewis
4 Jon Hazlewood
5 Lloyd Pitt

After the meeting had finished there was a presentation made to the a E8 buggy driver and Truggy driver From Coventry Model car club in Memory of Dez Chand as the Dez Chand Memorial meeting had to be rescheduled, due to previous bad weather and unfortunately clashed with this round.

The trophies were made to the most improved over the day for the E8 to Paul Crompton and Allan Bridgeman in the Truggy class.

Big thanks to everyone who supports the championship. Ben Cosgrove (race Director) all personal who volunteered to help out with marshal points. Shrek for the use of the track and his partner for the cafe.

Hope to see you all at the next meeting June 2nd at Coventry
