Hi all. Has anyone out there done the MM conversion with the rtr and does the parts bag that came with it have all the parts to do 3 gear mm or do i need other bits like screws ect.

You will need,

1 x extra idler gear
1 x idler gear shaft
2 x idler gear bearings

Screws to suit - see the online manuals but I know you can pick up a full screw kit for about £10 which is always handy to have around anyway

Luniemeister has given you some of the parts list for mm4.
I think you need 2 idlers, 3 gear uses the large idler, 4 uses 2 small ones.

But tbh. That's the best one to go for anyway!
I also converted my diff to a 4 gear one. Just needa cross shaft, a couple of gears and the spacers.

Hi. I have looked into this further and all i need to do for 3 gear MM is take out the spur gear shaft and turn it round as the car comes 3 gear RM and all the plastic parts come with it all but two screws. Can someone explain the benefit of 4 gear when the added gear is the same size and does not seem to gear it up or down but just reverse the motors action if you want the motor on that side of the car also this puts slightly more load on the motor for seemingly no gain. I,m gonna do it today and put up a pic here of the final result.

The differences in behaviour between rm, mm, 3 and 4 gear are all on the site.
The main differences are in how it behaves under acceleration, cornering and in the air. (Balance and traction)

http://www.team-durango.com/in-the-pits.php?car_id=0&article_id=4472

FWIW the "main" versions used are mm4 and rm3. Some use the other options, but not (afaik) that many.

And you don't add a gear, you take one large idler out and put two smaller ones in instead. No change to final ratio. But you do change the direction of rotation of the motor in relation to the wheels.
BTW in all configurations the motor runs "forwards" it's just the arrangement of the spur, motor and gearbox that change.

I did comment on another thread (same subject) a week or so back, have a search

Right Matt I see, cheers mate when I search on this forum it often fails as some sort of memory problem ?. Anyhow I have completed the MM3 conversion shell recut everything sorted  which was quite easy to do and the worst part was feeding the antenna wire back through its pipe hole  what a pain, as I swapped sides with the electrics. All the parts you need come in the spare parts bag you get with the rtr the only thing you need to get is two screws I used two m3 x 23 mm +/- a couple of mil that I had from my nitro helis. when your done you will have a bunch of plastic parts and screws left over. Test run was excellent. If I can find me camera I will bung a few pic on.

Hi mate

I have recently converted the rtr from rear motor to mid motor 4 gear. The below link takes you to the main durango site but scroll down and it shows what parts to buy

http://www.team-durango.com/race-cars/dex210rtr/

You do not get the instruction manual with the rtr either so is worth searching for the durango 210 instruction manual and use this to convert

Hope this helps

thanks for that been looking all over the place for them lol
found the instruction manual and downloaded, was it easy to do? and did you have to make changes to body?

Not too bad to do (for a novice) And took a couple of hours. My brother and I used the following video which is very basic but there are 3 videos. We used this with the instruction manual. You will need to change some parts but they all come with the rtr apart from the extra bits needed as before

The video is for the truck but gives you an idea

and did you have to make changes to body?

As above really, will the rtr shell need cutting around to fit in mm format ?

Yes it will, to be able to accomodate the motor plate now in front of the rear tower.

hi just did my mid motor today but came to one problem with the RF hanger mount, I cant put any screws in the 2 mid holes of it as there is no treads there, how do you over come this?

You don't.
As in, you don't use the two mid holes in MM.......

Check out step 29 in the manual here http://www.team-durango.com/pdf/manuals/TD102006/DEX210%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf
the 10mm screws go into the transmission case and the 30mm go through the RR holder

o so it does not matter if only 2 screws holding it down

It should be held down with the ones in the RR suspension holder and 2 underneath.

Also if you are doing this with the rtr you have to prize off the top part of the antiroll bar holder off the brace that you have removed and it is glued to it so can take some coaxing off so you can use it at the rear with the second part of the anti roll bar holder that is in your spare parts bag.

A lot of information in this thread, which I have read through but just want to summarise and check with you guys I have at all correct!

I have the Dex rtr so I have 3 gear rear out the box and to convert to 3 gear mid as slippy said all I need is 2 x m23 screws roughly 23mm long and the additional parts on luniemiesters list are only needed to convert to 4 gear and not involved in the conversion to mid?

And the parts I need just to be sure are... ( bear with me I'm a little show! ;) )

http://www.team-durango.com/part-info.php?partNo=TD310238 of which I only need one of the smaller gears as there is one already in the gearbox, so two smaller gears in total.

http://www.team-durango.com/part-info.php?partNo=TD310247 idler gear shafts of which I only need 1, again as one already in the box.

http://www.team-durango.com/part-info.php?partNo=TD601002 2 x bearings, don't know how many already in there/needed in total.

And some shims, not on luniemiesters list but it says on the TD website I also need them:

http://www.team-durango.com/part-info.php?partNo=TD709033

Also I was going to invest in the dex210 kit for spares as they are so cheap at the moment but I'm having second thoughts?... These few bits would be useful for the mm4 conversion and a spare set of wheels, but shock towers I'm going to carbon ones so hopefully I'll never need to replace them ;) chassis I'm happy with longer plastic one (unless you guys would suggest otherwise!) so that's a grand total of about £30 (£20 for mm4 parts and £10 for wheels) its there a lot else in there I'm likely to need/ break to warrant the extra £70 for kit?...

Cheers guys!
Dean

You need two small idlers. 3 gear uses the one large idler, 4 gear uses 2 small ones.

But they come as a complete set, so no big deal.

Cheers Matt... Helpful as always! :)
