LiPo is the future - I'm sure you've all heard that before, but if you haven't yet had the pleasure to use it then Trakpower have kindly offered up some of their super Li-Po (lithium Polymer) cells as competition prizes, read on to see how you could be in with a chance of winning one of these great packs.

The awesome Trakpower prizes on offer are:

1st place: 2 x battery of choice (3200,3200sp, 3600 30c, 4800sp or 4900), balancer and pitpro charger, and T-shirt

2nd place: 1x battery of choice (as above) , balancer, and T-shirt

3rd place:3200 saddle or stick and a T-shirt.

We want to see how artistic you can be, you don't have to be a top photographer or artist or even have a good camera, we're just after an interesting photo. The theme is 'Sunsets' and the photo should include a setting sun/colourful sky, bit of scenery, and your r/c model car. To make this competition as fair as we can, it is a user judged competition, so once the closing date for submitting photos has passed, take a look at all the photos below, and simply pm me with the name of the person who submitted your favorite image.

A couple of rules:
Please only one competition entry per person.
The photo must be taken by yourself - don't infringe anyone elses copyright!
Photo to include setting sun (or colourful evening sky), and your r/c car (car/truck/buggy/ etc etc).
To enter the competition, simply upload your photo and post it within this thread. If you are having any difficulty posting your photo to this thread then please ask for help.
Entry closing date will be August 25th, after this date anyone wishing to vote can PM me (mrs oople) and nominate their favourite photo.
All votes need to be submitted by PM by August 30th, when the votes will be added, and the top 10 favourite photos will be submitted into a public poll for your final viewing, where you can vote for your favourite of the top 10 selected photos.

The poll closing date will be September 17th, after this date details of the top 3 voted for photos will be requested and submitted to Trakpower for the purpose of distributing prizes.

Please try to keep this competition thread clean, we can have a banter thread elsewhere, but we want to keep all the photos easily accessible in one place, it'll make things easier once it comes to voting.

Good luck, and get snapping!
Vicky

This is when I wish I had a good camera. I have taken some cool, good pictures but they didn't have a sunset in them, just some snow and wet leaves. This one was taken with my mom's cam and featured in RCDriver's April Showoffs :woot: What's a sunset? Down here in hell, we don't have many of them http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/teufel/a045.gif

Hi guys,

I made a nice sunset shot of a 2WD Buggy at the Offroad Nightrace 2008 in Potsdam near Berlin (Germany). It's the Associated B4 of Michael Vollmer (oople member "siebenelch"). The light was quit low but the ambiance is great.

Greetings from Berlin

Last night sucked for sun. I made a car drive and 2 mile walk up a hill (what can I say, I could really do with some lipo's) in hope of getting good photo for this competition, and all there was was cloud until it got dark, so a long walk downhill through the woods to try another day. Do we get points for trying lol?

If it's sunny tonight I will cry, as it's my Dad's birthday so have to go out for a meal :o

Good luck everyone, but has anyone else got a feeling mole or supergreg have won this already? You both have awesome photos.

mole2k
15-08-2008, 11:49 AM
I have to admit I was fairly lucky in that the sky started to clear about 8pm so I took a bit of a drive out to this place which I quite often take pictures at as it's a nice location. I got a few different variations on this theme which is basically just a landscape with an rc car stuck into it :p.

I want to try some action photographs if I get the weather.

I think mole might have the winner right there.

Let's hope so for him 'cause he clearly did not read the rules too well :eh?:
It clearly says only 1 picture, so no second chances :D

 leaves us a chance at 2nd or 3rd prize

EDIT: been looking around a bit myself: sunshine : no prob, but scenery? Darn, does anybody appreciate dirty grey office buildings against a colored sky?

If you set the shot up properly then you could have a very interesting, contrasting image there, have a go and see what you can come up with, always worth a try.

basic question:
is there any minimum requirement for the size?

I think I shot my entry picture yesterday (that's unless I can get a better sky before the end date).
Unfortunatelythe one with the best angle's a tad blurry and I'd want to size it down a bit to gain sharpness.

Is 800x600 ok , and do you need a larger size original later?

jimmy
19-08-2008, 02:48 PM
800x600 is fine :)

Well I fell out of a tree today getting photos for this competition.... it's not easy.

Today was first (good) sunset I have had here since the competition started, but sadly my grandmother got rushed to hospital about 5pm today so I've had to stay at home and act as the information relay via phone. Hopefully things will be good for her, but I couldn't miss out on perhaps my only sunset before the date is up.

Not being able to leave home, I got creative and tried to make things look nice in my garden. Big garden but sadly loads of trees obscuring the sky. So, cordless phone in pocket, ZX-5 in one hand and very expensive camera in t'other I climbed a tree to get results. It turns out it's hard to keep track of your balance looking through a viewfinder. A sore bum and broken wishbone on the Kyosho prove that, fortunatly I saved my camera. Ironically the photos from in the tree weren't great either looking at them now!

We better have more sunny evenings!

mole2k
19-08-2008, 10:42 PM
I certainly think you should win something for being the most determined Glypo :D

I'm sorry about the lack of time guys - but I'm confident we'll all have a chance to get some nice photos! :woot: I'm going to do one of course

James, love that photo! it's mad!

Mrs oOple
19-08-2008, 11:18 PM
Glad your camera is ok Jason, and hope your Gran makes a fast recovery.

For those who are struggling to get the right photos, just bear in mind that this isn't going to be judged based on who has got the best camera, it's all about who can be the most creative with what they have.

Anyone who is concerned about the rubbish weather we've been having, I chose sunsets because many rainy days that we've had this year have turned into really nice evenings. Really though, be creative with light... the sun doesn't have to be in the photo, but dramatic lighting caused by the setting sun / weather conditions. See what you can come up with. Also, sunrise - what's that? I don't wake up early enough to see the sunrise, but if you get dramatic lighting first thing in the morning, see what you can achieve from that.

There's no harm in entering the competition is there, no-one has won yet, and it's the competitors who judge the competition.

So... happy snapping!
x

mole2k
20-08-2008, 12:10 AM
Sunrise is often far better for taking pictures as the air is clearer so you get less haze and raised dust so you get nice colourfull light a lot more often... there is that getting up bit to taking pictures then though :p.

A easier way of doing the voting may be to set up a new thread as a poll.
With all the photos in order as submitted labeled.

Then using the poll select which you want to vote for?

Here what I ended last week, an on-raod car seeing sunset on the city. I did several try on different shooting spot but didn't turn as expected.

That's kind of the point to Oople I think: get in members and get sleepers to post ;)

Personally, I've been a member for some time but wasn't exactly posting much after seeing little response on the vintage and "I made it forum"
To me it feels the forums have been devided up a little too wide so it kind of feels very silent. Maybe just me not visiting enough

Not seen a colourful sunset for ages, so that'll have to do, sun setting behind the hills in the Lake District. Do you get bonuses for being in trouble for taking your car on every holiday to try to get a decent photo?

The competition is now closed to further entries. Thanks to everyone who has uploaded their photos, there are so many great photos - I am glad that I don't have to do any decision making here!

Now take some time to have a look through the thread and PM me with the name of whomever you think has posted the most creative photo.

Thanks again, and good luck

I don't know about anyone else, but with so many pages and it all spread out I found it hard to compare like for like. So I whacked them all in a document to compare so I could vote.

Thought I'd share:

http://www.glypo.com/ooplecomp.html

Makes it easier IMO (as someone people got massive files uploaded which messes up the forum width).

Awesome Jason, thanks for doing that. I had suggested it to Jimmy, but he's been working hard on the Stotfold report ever since we arrived home on Sunday night, so I didn't really want to overload him with more work. So thanks lots and lots.

And the winner is ...... JIMMY!!!!!

The prizes are so awesome that to prevent ANY mischief, even though I'd like all the prizes myself - and make things as honest and open as possible, no one who joined the forum after the closing date will now be able to vote on the entries. Not entirely fair to genuine new users, but this will curb any temptation to create multiple accounts and vote for yourself - which is a bit naughty really.

Ed, I'm talking about people registering multiple accounts to vote for themselves - someone pointed out some information to me yesterday so I 'took some action' to make things fair. Nothing of course to do with genuine new members, since they are very welcome. I'm very happy if someone wants to join oOple to enter the competition - that's fantastic.

Thanks Jimmy, the name is erik btw.
I knew what you referred to and was talking more about the general protectionist tone of others. The response you made on the situation was perfectly 'gentleman'.
I'm not out to make ennemies here, just pointing out we're all guests on Jimmy's site and should be respectfull to eachother, especially to new members we have no real knowledge on.

A bit off-topic, but since this thread has many readers it's a good place to call out: besides Jimmy , were any of you guys at the 2007 Ifmar WC'S in Japan? Maybe we have met?

Where do you vote?

Mrs oOple
30-08-2008, 08:51 PM
Send me a PM with the name of the poster who submitted your favourite photo, and I'll add all the votes together then submit the favourites forward for a public poll.

Don't forget to get your votes into me this weekend, today is the deadline so tomorrow I should be creating the poll.

Thanks to everyone who has voted so far!

Voting via PM is now closed. To pick the best photo out of the top 10 finalists, please visit the poll thread HERE (http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13616).

Congratulations to the finalists, good luck! And thanks again to everyone.

now, well done to everyone who made it into the last 10 in the comp but is it really that fair that this comps application post is some of the chosen pictures' is the first post ever for some members?

im all for extra members for oople but...

jimmy
01-09-2008, 05:27 PM
On the other hand would it be fair to exclude new members? There are plenty of people who join oOple but never post anything as well.
Though it's not hard to find out who's photo is who's - I didn't use any names on the polls to try avoid any bias.

Don't worry, I'm sure we'll have a new competition at some point in the near future! :) Signed sticker from Masami anyone? - signed tshirt by masami, hayato, cragg, cavalieri, maifield, tebo etc.... ? signed yellow wheels from pinisch!? we've got loads of junk to give away!
