they replace the plastic suspenion shaft holders with alloy items. I know that you can stop the wishbone pin from popping in an accident by shimming the suspension tight, but Alloy is better

I know some 3racing stuff is a bit below par and ideally we'd all stick to branded Tamiya stuff but in this case the 3racing mount is fine, its not a "high stress" part really so quality is not a major issue (although in this case the quality is actually OK), and at the end of the day its half the cost of the (exorbitant) Tamiya part plus you get the large mount and the two smaller mounts in one pack. With Tamiya you have to buy the front and rear of each end of the car separate ie 4 packs and that my friends is a total rip-off :mad:

If you are a bit of a basher in your DB01 driving, I would also recommend getting some alum suspension mounts. Just be sure to have a couple spares with the front and rear control arms.

The TRF Aeration shocks made all the difference in the world with that car. When building the shocks, add some green slime on the bottom seal around the o-rings.

Hi guys,
Im new to R/C and so far i've only got a Super Clod. I love it and was going to modify it, but now want a buggy instead so I can race. I want to buy all the parts I need in one go so I do have to take it apart again (my first build was the super clod and it was tough!).
About the mods that DCM has mentioned, I can't find the CVD's or the wishbone holders. Its either that or I have seen it but don't recognize it cause its all just parts to me. Can someone please tell me the exact name of the part or give me a link to the parts?
Also, the front-one-way pulley thing, do I just have to buy that pulley (1 round gear-looking thing), or do I have to buy the kit?

Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

I tried the plastic holders... well, I should say my test team (the kids) did, and managed to pull a wishbone out each time.... so I am gonna stick with the alloy.... Jimmy is just tight :woot:

For the Durga itself, I was looking at a HK ebay store "rc empire", which will cost me US$192 posted to Australia. That is the cheapest I've found so far.
For the other parts, i've been looking at stellamodels.
Having only ever owned a basher, I'll better be safe and get all the stronger parts necessary without breaking the bank. It will be mainly used as a weekend warrior at the park or the local track. Having looked at some of other ppls Durgas, with all the money they put into parts, shouldn't they just buy the 501X?
I do plan to put in an entry-level brushless combo. I've heard a sidewinder 4600 is ok?

to me why buy this rather than the 501x is that it uses stick packs
plus you dont really dont need much hop up to make it perform all you actualy need is the alloy shocks and thats about it :thumbsup:

A CVD is a constant velocity joint driveshaft, ie the hub and shaft are one unit. It moves through a smoother operating range than an old fashioned universal joint. The kit Durga comes with dog bones which are separate from the hub and look like er, a dogs bone hence the name.

CVDs on the front should give smoother steering and the big benefit with them is that if you rip a corner off you won't loose the driveshaft out on the track - dog bones can be swines to find in the grass/dirt.

Ok, since the gf is paying for most of it as a late birthday present, my parts list has got too high and she isnt having any of it.

So... I am definitely going go get a sidewinder 4600kv combo, so essential parts obviously from what I read is the slipper clutch.

What other hop ups are essential for me to run the sidewinder?

At the moment, I think all i can afford is the slipper, TRF shocks (was gonna get the 3racing but read that they are dodgy), and a screw kit.

What, if any, will be essential for it to be reliable. I don't want to have to fix it after every run. I don't mind spending abit extra to get stuff that will save me time and money in the future, but as I was intending to have a budget-ish r/c, I don't want to spend too much as I could just spend abit extra and get a car with all the extra bits in the kit.

Just get what you can afford at the moment - for me half the fun is modifying/improving as you go along anyway.

I'd add some $12 USD ceramic diff balls (3mmx12), only for the rear diff, and some Associated B4 slipper pads for an extra $4 or so (quieter). That should set you up really well for not a lot more money.

I'm also improving my Durga but i'm not sure which TRF damper i should use.
Tamiya offers the DF-03 damper for the Durga but i was told the 501x damper are better than the DF-03 damper but more complicated to fill.

What would you suggest?
Are the 501x damper that complicated to build and fill?
Is there a good How-to?

Definitely 501X Damper for the DB01. There is actually a DB01 shock set that is the 501X dampers with a couple of small changes.

These shocks are not difficult to assemble - parts quality is very good so that is not a problem. These are "aeration" shocks so need to be built with a small amount of air in them.

To get them roughly right, when you fill them with oil, the surface of the oil should be concave when the piston is down (ie don't fill completely). When the cap is on and you compress the piston, it should have even resistance all the way (not get stiffer), and you may hear a tiny squeak at the top of the travel. No more than that though. This will give smooth shocks.

For extra precision you can drill out the top caps and fit a small bleed screw. Not sure if the screws come in the DB01 set but they do come in 501s. I don't think many people do this though.

The only Kit i can find in the shops is the 53926 DF-03 Damper Set.

Is there a list maybe with pictures to compare of all actual Hop-Ops for the DB-01 anywhere as the Tamiya web page does not list them all either :thumbdown:.

54028 is the DB01 option dampers.

Tamiya USA site has a better listing of parts than most other Tamiya sites.
