RB6 grass setup advise

Hi lads I wonder if any of you could help me?

I've had the RB6 for around 2 months now and it's hands down the best 2wd I've ever driven, suits me perfectly in dry conditions. Due to the great weather of the past few months I've driven the car exclusively in high grip conditions until yesterday where I raced on a dry yet cut up grass track similar to the track for our North West regional next Sunday.

I found the car very loose to say the least and would have to wait til I was perfectly straight before applying the power. I tried different tyre combinations through the day BB white rear/schu green minispikes, Bb green minsipikes/schu green spikes, schu yellow minispikes/yellow LP cut staggers and didnt feel much difference...none of these tyres were brand new however.

I was wondering if people could give me a few pointers as to what I could change to suit a cut up grass track starting with tyres?

Here is a breakdown of my current setup:

Front:

Core 450 oil/Losi black spring/standard piston
Shock middle on tower/inner wishbone
30deg kickup/0deg caster
Camber link: middle on tower 1mm spacer/ 1mm spacer on C hub.

Rear:

Core 350 oil/losi yellow spring/standard piston
Shock second to inside on tower/outer on (rb6 gullwing) wishbone
2deg anti squat
Camber link: inner on tower 0mm spacer/ middle on hub 2mm spacer

Gecko RC (Carl Latham) under lipo weight kit and aluminium rear bulkhead.

The rest of the setup such as wheelbase etc is as kit.


My mate who also runs the RB6 gave up and ran his rear motored RB5 for the final yesterday with success, would it be worth considering switching my 6 to rear motor for this grass event?

Hi, I have this issue with mine too. On grass it can be very loose to drive but to be honest, i think it is just down to mid-motor 2wd's. Pretty much all the mid 2wd cars i have had have all been the same. Superb on high grip and a challenge on looser tracks.

As you said, your mates RB5 was better on the grass. I broke my car at a meeting a while back and my friend lent me his B4.1 for the last final and it was awsome to drive.

BRING BACK REAR MOTOR 2WD's!!!!

use the rf thin wishbone hanger brkt at the front of the rear wishbones only that will increase the rear toe in giving it a lot more drive,and yes we did run rear motor setup Saturday at ozfest it was good to

Its hard to use Kevs set ups as he uses small bore shocks, especially when the majority 'oop norf' use big bores.

I ran rear motor at Oz Fest to.. had PT issues unfortunately.. got the car pretty good i have to say.. just frustrating :cry:

I changed a number of things through out the day, and all worked.. Mid motor changes should be straight forward i'd have thought.

I ran the car on the dirt for the oople invernational in mid then changed to rear for the finals... i qual in the B final.. so thats where id be starting in mid motor..

Not sure if i will be there this weekend yet.. The Neo beckons! :thumbsup:

I run my RB6 the same set up as Kev as most of the Team does and I have been using big bore shocks....if it helps its all the same as Kev with the following for you

Front - 6 hole Kyosho pistons, 550w Kyosho oil, Orange spring
Rear - 5 hole Kyosho pistons, 350w Kyosho oil, Red/sometimes Gold spring

Very easy to drive - hope that helps you

I run SB shocks in the NW :p

At Ozfest I ran BB and SB and SB were much better. Its just a shame the car kept clogging up with grass oh and it rained 15 seconds from my heat starting :(

Hi Chris

I'd really recommend you try the RB5 rear wishbones as they will lock the rear end in much more (UM566 or LA272). We also drill an extra hole further in from the existing two to move the shock in, which also aids forward drive.

Cheers for all the help lads much appriciated. Would it be fair to say that the rear motor car would be more forgiving and locked in than the mid car? I'm tempted to convert for the regional. Nick, Carl, how did the RM compare with the mid when you tried them?
