A lot of people will answer Ceramic but my preference is Tungsten Carbide. In theory I guess Ceramic should be better, but in my opinion tungsten are longer lasting. A warning though.. there will be differing opinions and it'll be down to personal experiences and preferences!
The balls supplied in the RB6 are Tungsten Carbide and there is no need to change those as they are excellent. I ran mine for at least 6 months before needing to change.
Also, you won't get anything better than the kit supplied thrust race in the RB6 (BRG100) that will last for a very long time.

Echo all of Kev's comments, just add that if you keep the diff clean and use only the X-gear lubes supplied in the kit you'll get great service out of the kit balls.
When it is time to change I'd always recomend using either genuine Kyosho balls or the excellent tungesten balls from RudeBits.

Kev always got the good answer, no surprises I come to him every time I need a K related answer,,,
Roger IS the Kyosho bible here too.
I use Bfast myself, Carbide balls and ceramic thrust. Plates are trued to perfection and I spend two sets a year with a perfect diff. Easy.
Even easier for me I just use a gear diff much to Rodgers disgust:eh?:
