What wheels for RC10 Goldpan

Got myself some JConcepts 5 spoke wheels for the RC10 but would like another set "just in case". Just in case of what I am not sure but better to be safe than sorry.

I know B4 rims are OK on the front so thats all sorted, but will B4 rims fit on the back end? If not would B3 ones do?

If no joy I'll have to try to source another set of JConcepts ones from somewhere I guess.

I do still have the original 2 piece wheels but the tyres have gone rigid after nearly 20 years of non-use. I s'pose they'd be good for drifting though ;).

The problem is all later versions of the RC10 used 3/16" axles instead of the 1/4" axles in the original. Also B4 rims don't have enough offset thanks to the longer B4 arms. B3 wheels can be used straight on if you change the axles to 3/16", or if you enlarge the hole in the wheel.

Alternatively using HPI hex adapters (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXN057&P=7) you can use hex drive wheels. I might have a set of those hex drives for the RC10 somewhere if you want to go that route.

Yep, any wheels for the B3 or earlier can be made to work, but it'll take a minute or two with a hobby knife to change the drive a bit.

You'll need to enlarge the hole a bit from the back to 1/4", but be careful to to remove too much, as you still want the wheel to run true. A bit like a countersink, really.

Also, you'll need to enlarge the "slots" that the drive pin rests in a bit. This mod is not obvious, but is necessary as the "roll pin" that the early cars used is a larger diameter from the later pins.

I've also got j-concepts B3 5-spoke wheels for the car - and they do look awesome indeed.

Oh yeah, and note that the front wheels will need different bearings to what you've got in the old 3pc wheels.

(I got caught out on that as well!)

The axles are the same dimensions, yes, but the newer wheels accept a non-flanged bearing with a larger outer diameter. Your old bearings are the little flanged guys, right?

I'd say go the route Terry suggested - Buy the HPI adaptors and then Hong Nor CRT .5 or Hobao Hyper ST mini rims will bolt straight on the back. These wheels are cheap and accpet standard 2.2 buggy tyres. :)

b2/b3 wheels are perfect on the gold tub rc10 but they are not easy to find anymore. thundertiger has a sport buggy which is a B3 with thunder tigers name on it. i expect these wheels to be a direct fit on a gold tub rc10.

as for the wheel bearings....don't bother with the flanged bearings, any rc10 front axle can fit both the standard and the flanged.
