I've been tinkering with the idea of making a Javelin roll cage tribute to the Turbo Optima, hence "The Turbo Javelin"
Since I started making the Javelin roll cages I am almost certain that the the Tubo Optima I bought a few months ago will be dressed as a Javelin instead of a Turbo Optima, no lexan body. But I would like to do something different that pays tribute to the Turbo Optima body. A roll cage that has some details and colors of the TO. So I made this(Re worked photo of course ;)); What do you think? Need helpfull opinions to fabricate the tribute roll cage.
Great idea Optiman! I think you should make the cab lower and slightly forward as I feel this is what defines the Turbo Optima the most.

Yes the roof definately needs to look lower and with a slight longer line.
Hmmm this would require a new jig... Or maybe playing with the visual aspect of the sail panel.

Something like this. In my opinion it really capture the TO roof lines. What do you think?

Thanks to you both!
I am going to take some measurements from an old TO body I have laying around. I totally forgot about it and almost post a post asking for dimensions LOL. I am going to make a special sail panel and roof panel for the Turbo Javelin. Also a new jig will be made in case someone else is interested in one. Overall roof is lower and rear roll cage section is totally different. For the rear I am going to make small louvers from underneath the roof panel until they meet with the air spoiler.
Side guards are going to be the same, but no inner triangle hole, rather solid to place the #210. For the windows I am going to add mesh net, just like in the box and... the driver ;) The window net/mesh thing is actually not my idea, is from a friend named Alan who bought one black Javesteel an suggested it.

Today I laser cut the Turbo Javelin parts, let's see how the finish product ends up...

Did some progress today;
1)Finished the side guards and front part of roll cage is almost done.
2)Turbo Javelin's guards are finished and are different from the Javelin's because they where cut to provide space for the 210 number.
3)No wing on the Turbo Javelin!!! The rear roll cage part will have a louvered panel with rear spoiler just like the Turbo Optima.
So the plans are coating the entire roll cage red with red side guards. The number plate, roof panel and rear louver will be kept natural stainless and the upper side guards will be white. Also will try to get some thin white strip to place it along the main horizonal tube, from front to back. Since the lateral (cockpit) panels are bigger than Javelin's, I will add decals and details of the Turbo Optima.
Will post more pics tomorrow, need to laser cut some new parts. Sadly I cut identical lateral panels for each side, so left side reads; "TURBO" and right side reads; "OBRUT" Did'nt notice that while drawing them... damn hurry..., also the roof panel is all wrong .

Here are a couple of shots of Goldie showing off the rear louver. The wing mounts are on the way and the louver panel hit them and did not went all the way up, about 5/16" shorter to it's final position. Hate to blow my own whistle... but damn!!!! That louver part looks really nice!!! Guess someone is going to have the wing mounts removed.... :p

Man...you've completely transformed that car! Brilliant!
I noticed you've installed a racing clutch. Have you run the car yet with it?

Thank's Naushad,
Honestly I dont have the testicular fortitude to weld wires on the 480Gold's new solder tabs and scratch the surface of the W5031/34's tires!!!! For me it's like the last Coke on the planet, once I drink it is just going to be an empty alum can!!!!
That's the reason why I need a vintage runner, I am looking at my plain stock optima with evil eyes right now.....

By the way I just fitted the louvers on my original Javelin ABS roll cage and it fits like a glove.... PERFECT!!!!!! Well it should be, afterall the Javesteel has the same dimensions as the ABS.
I might put one or two of this louvers for sale...

Ok, just installed the side guards on the Turbo Javelin, I am satisfied with the results.
Done for today, will post later when the roll cage is finally finished, probabbly next week, need to work on my real job LOL!!!
Oh, by the way, if anyone is interested in the rear louver I just put them on ebay >HERE (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kyosho-Javelin-Roll-Cage-Louver-Kit-OT63-OT63G-OT63Y-Optima-Vintage-/251342680696?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a8530f278)<.

Hi mate, just saw this thread for the first time. Great work on the Turbo Javelin cage, I really like the whole idea. :)
However, if you look closely at the Javelin cage you'll notice it pretty much resembles the Optima's body lines. While you have made changes I think with a bit more tweaking it could look a lot more like the turbo Optima body shape.
For me, I think it looks too narrow at the rear and it really needs the wedge/wing section overhanging the motor. I know there would be a bit of work in it but I really think it would finish it off very nicely and look a lot more like a Turbo Optima.
Cheers, Keith ;)

Hi Keith,
Sorry for the slow reply I've been a quite a bit occupied solving family matters this past few weeks/months... :(
Thank's for the comments!
I wanted to use the Javelin mold to make the TJ rollcage so that's why the roof line and most of the rollcage look like the original Javelin, after all this is a concept so it can't be wrong ;)
Originally I wanted to make the rear turbo louver exactly like you are saying; hanging above the rear and motor, but I want it to be a Javelin in essence so I just kept it simple and add the spoiler and louvered panel like found in the TO.
Only 5 of these rollcages were ever built along with a numbered certificate that the company made for each. I am planning on making another limited run but in a blue and white rollcage, maybe with some slight changes on the sail panel and in the rear louver, instead of "Turbo" it will read "LE MANS" or something like that.

Nice rollcage, I'll see if I can find some "spare money" for one. As for the text on the rear, something lile Le Mans or Kyosho would look better than Turbo, I think,
