i've been racing and bashing electrics for 25 years but i just got my first nitro:D. its a xt2. i also have a all start, starter box. my main problem is that my engine appears to run the opposite way to the way the starter box wheel turns. do all engines run the same way? could the motors in the starter box have been reversed at the factory? anyone got any ideas, as i hate using the pull start:(

if you look from the front of the car at the engine, the clutch turns anti clockwise.
yes its possible that the starter box is wired wrong.

if your going to run with the starter box then i suggest you get a normal backplate for the engine, sooner or later the engine will start drawing air thru the backplate bushing for the pullstarter as it wears the bronze bushing(the pullstarter shaft still spins in the backplate as its directly driven by the conrod pin)

ok i've now got the starter going the right way:D. the problem i have now is that all the slots for the locating pegs are covered by the chassis, so its hard for me to get the car in the right place every time:(

you might have to drill some holes then in the starter box.
what you can do is remove all the pegs, get a piece of say 4mm plywood, polycarb etc,fit it so it covers the lid of the starter box,cut out slot for starterwheel to poke thru then you can just either fit a wooden batton as a guide on the plywood for the chassis or screw the pegs down and use those as a chassis guide, the plywood needs to be the same thickness as the chassis would be sat on the pegs, the chassis now sits flush on the plywood/poly and not on the pegs.

Just a thought, but maybe the car should sat be the other way around on the starter box. That could be why the motor was running the other way and the pegs dont line up

starter boxes have the motor down one side and slightly towards the rear so unlikely that hes got it on the box the wrong way around..only a muppet would do that :)
