looking for a new esc for my 1/10 buggy any recommendation on what to go for.

Reventon pro?

I've used a hobbywing 1s and Orion R10 pro in my RB6 and both fit well, I think the reventons are a bit bigger than those two (maybe not much more than the 1s though) and depending on which cells you are running space may be an issue - The R10 fits very well, maybe look for a good 2nd hand one within your budget...

Also have run an HW V2.1 120a in my 4wd without a hitch, the HW stuff is rock solid and that is a neat size speedo, the V3 looks v nice

Never run a reventon and had no experience of them myself, but I've not heard the best reports of them, just sayin'... ;)

I run both Orion and Speedpassion

I did have a capacitor blow on the Orion unsure why but I replaced it easily enough, the speed passion has been rock solid also.

Tuning wise the reventon pro is easy with the software.

The Orions differ depending on what Ampage you buy, the 160 A is very tweakable and lets you push the timings a lot. the 90A isn't as tunable.

I am also myself considering Hobbywing also, if you plan to go with lower turn motors for fun look at the higher Amps rates so your covered.

the orions have hard soldered wires, the Speed Passions you need to solder them

i have an hobbywing XERUN-120A V3.1 / V3 but i have problems with it which has put me off hobbywing for the moment.

Is it possible to sort the problems, rather than splashing out another 100 quid?

(Obviously not an option if you've blown it up!)

the first problem is that the reverse does not work properly

the second problem i have is when i go round a track and do some laps without any problems but on other laps the esc seams to cut out sometime for split second sometime for a couple of seconds not in the same place every lap but it enough to upset the handling of the car plus wreck my race.

tried send it back but they there is nothing wrong with it.

Sounds like radio/set up/wiring issues to me........

I had the cutting out thing, more than once.
- RX was browning out, fitted a capacitor, problem solved.
- Stuttering under large changes to throttle, turns out the sensor lead was knackered, swapped it and the problems gone.
- Cutting out at random points on the track..... aerial was damaged, new aerial and it's been fine since.

Is the reverse thing due to the delay? I had that on an older ESC, unless you were absolutely bang on 0% throttle for 1 second, it wouldn't work. So even a bit of throttle trim would stop it working repeatably...... Set up the throttle (again and again) and eventually it worked as it was meant to.
It was still a pain to use, but it worked!

Or it could just need the software updating/reflashing.

Either way, ditching an ESC unless its properly fooked seems a bit expensive, especially when a couple of hours playtime at the track could quite easily solve the issue!

i will try fitting a capacitor on and different sensor lead

with the reverse thing it does very similar as you say mattr but when it does finely does go into reverse i can put transmitter back the neutral position, the car still go back slowly even pushing the stick forward make it go faster backwards then it awkward to get to forward.

+1, i've had 3 different Hobbywing ESCs do this and just like you say, each time 2 minutes setting up the throttle trim and they were fine. If it still persists try programming a bigger neutral range.

Do the netural range at least 9° not 6° thats stock settings.

Yep sounds to me like the esc thinks your tx is allready braking slightly, hence the reverse isnt kicking in. Trim throttle foreward a bit or set neutral bigger as said above.

Id also resolder it up on both esc and battery plugs. Sounds like a dry joint the cutting out.
