Let's hope Apex learn from JEs customer service not the other way round....:eh?:Considering JE now seems to exist only as a name, a website and a phone line in Apex Models, I would expect the customer service to now be exactly the same as Apex.

Always had plenty of help from Richard and his team in terms of advise and help to make the right decision into buying the correct product, rather than being steamrolled into buying something the the shop wants to push or promote like some other places do.
Glad to see Apex expanding in these hard times and wish them every success.
Ps: I don't want the sweets in the packages as I can't eat them

I'll make sure the sweet continue!
This deal is good for both parties and keeps the JE Business going. There is a new dedicated mail order team to handle stock and processes and ready to get orders out!
They sponsor my club SHRCCC and I've not heard one complaint about them, in fact normally they can't do enough for the local racers.
As racers we need to support all the retailers as without them we'd be pretty stuffed and the hobby would die

I have to admit that I was in the minority by the looks of things, I had no idea that Apex were taking on JE. It doesnt feel like the JE business is being continued as such though, only the JE name. I can understand how this is good for Apex as they will hope that people continue to trade with the JE name as before. I cant really see how this is good for the people (staff) of JE though, or the racers in the north who used to visit the shop in person.
I have no axe to grind with Apex, I have never used them and currently dont own any RC gear so am not likely to in the short term, but I dont see how this is a good deal for both parties. Possibly in the background, wih creditors getting paid if Apex have paid money to the JE of old for transfer of the name and website etc. But the customer and the (ex) employees, I cant see how this benefits them?
I do think it is shrewd by Apex though, if they had just let JE die and then increased their stock levels in the hope of the customers migrating to them then they would have been competing against the likes of MB, DMS etc for the extra sales. By acquiring the JE name though then it is quite likely that they will have just secured themselves a much bigger slice of the pie.

I think its great, we've lost so many shops over the last couple of years the news that one can be saved (all be it online only) is still better than losing it.
Good luck Japex! :)

this is great news and all the best to the guys taking on the shop. We're losing so many shop and it isn't easy making a living running a model shop, as most distributors sell direct these days and most racers seem to have some sort of deal / drive. Good luck I say!

this is great news and all the best to the guys taking on the shop.
Apex is not taking on the shop or saving it, the JE Models shop is still closing. Apex is using the JE Models reputation amongst off roaders to add to their customers. While I could pop into the JE shop if I wanted anything as it was a 20 minute drive away, it is now a 400 mile round trip to Apex Models.
If the shop was actually saved, the JE Models staff would still be working in it.

Great reason to all support your LOCAL shop. If I didn't have Apex, my nearest racing 'shop' would be a 90 mile round trip. If that one wasn't there god knows where I'd go to
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MODEL SHOP!
Can't remember the last time I actually step foot in a proper RC car shop but I think it was Apex about 3 years ago.
Apex/JE is my nearest model shop that sells anything useful and that is a 110 mile round trip for me. I just cannot justify £15-20 of fuel and three hours out of my Saturday. Everything is mail order (in the UK). That's ok if you know what you want and plan ahead a bit but it must be a nightmare if you are a begineer and want to talk to someone or can't afford to keep a stock of spares/tyres.
Still I reckon I have saved a fortune - I am sure I would regularly walk out with kits when I went into buy tyres if I had a local model shop:lol:

Si Coe
20-11-2013, 10:38 PM
The thing is JE WAS our local shop, DID do mail order and we DID support it. But its still gone down south.
Of course JE is a little odd because it hasn't gone bust due to lack of support - it was successful before the sale its just the owner no longer wanted it. But it still leaves BMM as the only shop serving the whole Manchester region.

Don't me wrong, Apex are ok, as a shop. As a website, and consequent communication, or lack thereof, sucks monkey jizz.

Crazy,
Apex are using the versatile JE Software that is directly linked to the website stock. I went in there today and Richard needed to log the bits out before I left, so it's all real time.
They are all working really hard to get everything working smoothly and it appears to be working.

I'm guessing his card had already been debited at time of order as opposed to when item was ready for dispatch.
I appreciate you sticking up for them Dudder, we really do have to support our local shops, as its all too easy to buy from hk for cheapness. Like I said before, nothing wrong with the actual shop itself, quite helpful iirc, and I've spent a fair chunk of wage in there over the last two decades. It is just that in life, and media, you only ever hear the bad things, and shit sticks.
Good thing though they're trying to keep the JE reputation alive, now, If they could only apply live stock level to their own website.
Good luck to them on the task ahead.

Ross mod are mainly 5th scale though there are no 10th shops locally now. Insideline for me from now on. Super fast, Kev is very helpful and they have a huge stock in Kyosho parts

22-11-2013, 10:25 AM
If they are going to use JE's live system (heard these cost a fortune:woot:) then the dark days of pages of parts that are not in stock should be gone, A good thing as I have also fallen foul of thinking great, they have what I need, order it...then wait, then phone call and low and behold the part was never in stock and is on order with the importer:thumbdown:
lets sit back and see what they come up with once they have all got settled in, with luck all will be JE as normal:thumbsup:
P.s +1 for insideline and kyosho
Bought B4 front hubs Monday they arrived Wednesday (with sweeties). Ordered something for my SC10 yesterday and was dispatched almost immediately.
Looks good so far although I must admit I've never had an issue with Apex in the past at all.

Yeah 8 months card debited numoros phone calls kept getting told they will be here next delivery etc etcIIRC As far as the distance selling regs go, that's very naughty. Not allowed to take the money until the goods are in Stock/ready for despatch. (It's a while since I've used apex, so not had to check up on it lately)

The phrase "cut your nose to spite your face" comes to mind.
I appreciate you had a bad experience but to be honest that can be the case wherever you shop, but it that a true representation of the standard and quality they give on a daily basis? The answer is no, this i would happily say is what you found with your experience with Apex. They have made massive changes to their systems and quality assurance procedures to ensure excellent customer satiasfaction which is why we should sometimes test the water again so to speak.
If you get dumped by a girl do you think they are all broken, no. You may feel bad but you then test the water again and date another. Dont let one bad experience X amount of years ago be your fixed judgment. Things change, people move on, processes and satisfaction improve.....etc

And that is rightfully his choice. Lets not though slate good British model shops that have made masive online improvements to supply "us racers" a quality service. Lets base these things on current data.
I for one am really happy (but equally understand the dissapointment for our northern brothers and sisters that have lost their local model shop) that Apex has taken over and kept JE Models alive as they now become a one stop shop for me, be it local pick up or mail order depending on how lazy i am :)

im not slating anyone off, just pointing out, when someone has a bad experience, there are other options available and once used if they give a better experience, then you stay loyal. weather or not the original problem has gone/changed does not mean you have to go back or even give them a second chance
