I'm going to be running a GTB with a 6.5 in my 4wd. Assuming I have proper gearing, do I need the fan? I have no room for it... None of the other manufacturers (LRP/Nosram, Tekin, Speed Passion, Castle Creations, Orion) include fans so it leads me to believe I'll be ok without it. Ambient temperature will be less than 26c, hopefully. Is there a particular temperature where you guys know you need the extra cooling?
Thanks guys
Chris

I had the same space problem in my 501X, ended up mounting it on its edge (opposite one to the leds) behind the servo just to make sure the fan would do its job and avoid thermaling out.
Hope this helps, I also cut the vent hole in the shell although left the undertray without any and it seems to work OK so far.

Agreed, defo better to have it remote mounted as some air flow if pretty important. Either that or position it directly at the front or under a vent.
A LOT of it has to do with your driving style too, i ran a GTB in florida with no fan and a 5.5 motor and could do the 5 mins easy where as others would thermal at 3 mins with red speed controllers with a fan

I always ran a fan in my Pred.

Ive always ran the fan in 4wd, never in 2wd

Do you guys think I could get away with no fan but one of the TCS systems? That I have room for

You can fit the gtb with fan in the pred with the upright servo mod, I did with not too many issues. There are some pictures on here showing different installs

I used to use a GTB and fan with std servo install.

I'm doing a left side servo mod, there's no room for the fan, unless the servo sticks up outside the body like Henga's, that's why I'm asking about running without it, not because I don't remember how I fit my GTB in my original X10 .
If I lay the servo down like standard, but on the left side right infront of the motor, then there is room for the GTB to go in front of it (without the fan (fan hits the body a LOT), but possibly with a TCS, if anyone thinks one of those is enough cooling).

I've used a Futaba S9551 low profile servo, so it doesn't
stick up through the body shell. I think that you will
need to keep the fan on the speedo as you will
probably get thermal cut outs without it.

Well, your horn sticks up a bit it looks like and you had to cut more of the body away. Perhaps I'm wrong. I'm just worried about it getting hit in a crash, like if a car landed on me. Do you think that will be an issue?
I'm also worried that having the servo in front of the esc will cause it to overheat. It will block air flow from the vent it looks like. And on the GTB, the fins on the heatsink run front to back, which would mean it would suck air in the top, and blow it back out at the motor and the servo, reducing air flow significantly.

The main reason for the extra body work being cut away is because
of the bolt head on top of the servo arm. It is still well protected by
the body. I haven,t had any problems with over heating with this
setup.

I guess that's what I'll do then
