I am reading and when talking to people (who do all forms of RC from on-road, off-road, nitro or elec) they feel like they need a change.
so...
what do you think your current class of racing lacks, or what do you think is an apealing aspect of another class of racing
for fun - here is a start... :P
I do touring car racing and its boring coz its flat...
OK, so that was a joke(ish) but does anyone have anything sensible to contribute (not holding out much hope on here, but I would welcome a suprise...)

Can we make off road any better than it is already?
On road just need more jumps and to run in grass and it'll be sorted!:p
Just joking....in case you wasn't sure.
Possibly a stock or beginners class at regionals? just to get the youngsters into racing without the intimidation of running with the regular faster people.

Super special stage rally. On road scale bodys with off road capabilitys.
Easyish to set up trackwise, cars running on a mixture of surfaces both 2 and 4wd,all scales and motive powers.
Get yer wedge out :)
touring cars... go back to REAL car shells...... dirt track.... rallycross shells....
I would love to see the Traxxas Slash series, but I think, if it isn't on a loose surface, you would lose the appeal.

Just more running would be good for me, that's the appeal of Nitro. I loved the Neo, 10 minute quals, 30 minute finals :woot:

Rally has been done before and wasn't that successful unfortunately, I enjoyed it.
Baybe with Lipo we could run longer heats?
I think it would be good to have a round by round score but have 2 scores per round, one for your fastest lap of the run and where that individual lap would put you in each round and then you actual time round score as we currently have, add these together and that is your round score.
It would make things interesting having a balance of consistancy and speed :o

i think that the torc on road qualifying system is the best all though racing snoring cars is crap  three rounds of qualifying and two finals for everyone seems to run a lot smoother and quicker:thumbsup: than three a finals and one final for the rest

I must say, that I did enjoy the 2 finals when I did the BTCC.
But Round by Round quali would be even more stressful, because if you bugger the first 2 runs up then your whole day is buggered.
its much easier to run RbR with the 4 quali's that we have.
The 3 Q's and 2 F's works better with FTD qualifying.

I would like to see/do more RACING, racing against the clock with a 'coach' telling you how fast you are going and how much faster you need to be going to get TQ or whatever you are trying to acheive is one thing...
racing with someone is another, I always get frustraited in the quallys, but love the finals, even if I bum out and end up in the C main, there is always someone to have a great race with and have a good laugh about it with them after.

I think that is a good idea.
Take my sister for instance who normally goes all over the track and gets in the way of the better drivers.

Touring car is cool i like the speed on them its awsome
Dont you need to turn up to a meeting first vinny.
Im not sure about the 3 quals and 2 finals thing, i did a lot of meetings like this and to be honest it takes the shine off the final, because its not a 1 off race.
I understand having 3 leg A's though:thumbsup:

I really like endurance-racing,
or what about team-racing, where you have to drive on turns (your teammate's car gets in, yours leaves, leaves you the time to switch battery, ...)
With such races it also about consistency and proper preparation. I have often seen that the winners where not those who made the fastest lap.
some other idea (yeah, I played Trackmania too often) why not build in a looping, even for Touring :D :D

I think we lack better facilities and need more people racing. I want to go somewhere that is not affected by the weather. It needs to be open 24hrs a day, with good food and drinks on site (it would be even better if there are good looking waitresses bringin the food directly to the pit table and some trophy girls to talk to), a shop that is uber cheap needs to be on site as well, it needs to be a busy place and there needs to be constant races going on. They should instead of giving you a trophy give you prize money. :woot:

we did the 1/8th Byron junior challenge at frankley at the weekend, the turn out was twice that at 1/10th juniors, and i think what made its so much more popular is prizes and gifts for winning, fastest lap,and top 3 etc,not more fun but more incentive to turn up.
also they had under 13's 16's and 19,s

If I had 5 stock Slash's and a small dirt track I'd love to try racing them with my usual racing buddies. Dunno if this would quickly get boring / serious, but even if it did it would probably be worth it while it lasted...
As a class it would surely work well for newcomers too.

This is what's sadly lacking.....proper racing!
You can't beat the excitement of a race - something I've been advocating for years!

an indoor off-road facility would be amazing.
the US hobby shop business model makes perfect sense, with the larger shops having track facilities on-site. buy stuff, race stuff, break stuff, buy more stuff, etc etc.
you can get a big enough structure built for 10-15k, plus whatever the land costs, and the dirt to make the track. but it's difficult to judge turnout figures, and entry fees would have to be raised to recoup the costs. it is something I'd like to do though.
finding a barn would be cheaper, but as yet I've had no luck.
what i'd like to see is an offroad spec-racing class - kind of like the tamiya eurocup but for off road cars. everyone has to use a control tyre and one make & wind of motor - creating a totally level playing field.
creating a totally level playing field.
Sadly these classes become the most expensive and bitchy classes going, everyone thinks if you are winning you are cheating:thumbdown:
It is a good idea if it is limited to those who are of a certain level otherwise you get people dropping down to become the big fish in a small pond

I would like to see.....more 10th off road action in the south (yes, the country goes further south than London if you didn't know):p .
I have two local tracks, an 1/8th nitro track and a 10th leccy track, one isn't very busy unfortunately, the other is run by a bloke with no manners

How about,
1 round of qualifying. Every driver gets designated a number at booking in, then everyone get 2 hours (say between 9-11 o clock) to go out and get a at least 3 flying laps per run. (obviously there would be an official allowing only 10 people on the rostrum at once.) The computer would tell each driver that there 3 lap run was over, so that you didn't get people staying up there for ages.
The finals positions would be your 2 fastest '3 lap runs' added together to decide your overall postion.
Then, we have 4 finals! each!

it still is geared towards the 1 lap wonders.
if you are the best RACER ever, you can pull anyones pants down and spank their ass to pull a move, but you are never fast enough to get into the 'top' final.
its possible that you could run the 4 finals with bump up 2 finals for the winner, bump up 1 final for 2nd, drop 2 finals for last, drop 1 final for 9th, the middle lot 'stay' for the next round of finals.
the key would be to score consistant runs and win the last final, or keep bumping up to get into the 'main' for the last round to have a shot at winning.
and you would certainly try to keep out of trouble in the early finals to stay in your final

I am based in Reading yet I race in Essex (LBC) which means a round trip of 240 miles every time. There are several decent tracks within easy traveling distance yet I choose this.
The reason is simple: proper racing.
I am aware that this type of racing would be impossible to do at national level because you cannot make sure of the driver standard from heat to heat.
However, If there were two rounds of qualifiying (best time counted for qualifying position) and say three finals with points awarded for finishing positions I think it would increase the popularity of the class.
I, for one, would do nationals again.

I like the idea of the bump ups, rallyx style!
Would it be possible to run nationals like the reedy race? Where you get to race everyone at some point?
Or do we not have enough hours in the day? does it take longer?

I agree, would much prefer more than one proper race in the day (am never gonna make A finals sadly!!)

We used to do this when I was karting at School, there were no actual finals as it happened, but 4 races where your best three finishing positions counted, with random grids. Sadly though, only worked because you could have @30 people in each race, and only 40 odd entries, can't see how a similar format would work for 120 odd national entries!
Could have saturday qualifying/sunday finals, but then people have to work on 2 cars in the same day, and everyone has 2 day meetings, which would be prohibitive cost/time wise for a lot of people!
Bump up would be cool if it could be fit into the timetable somehow!
Why have a 120 at one meeting?
A reedy-style format could be achieved if you had 4 meetings of 30
at 4 different venues, allowing 4 clubs to benefit rather than just one.
I know I've harped on about this before, but timed qualifying as it is at
present does very little to reward consistency.

...nor does it involve much in the way of track craft and/or tactics.

Was just scrolling down to the reply button when i saw this, bump up finals would be awesome, totally viable with the new lipo's coming in, but even with ni-mh... i have 3 batteries and it would not be that hard for me to have 2 charged before the first final.
Bump up finals were one of the things i enjoyed most about racing before i switched to electric... theres nothing worse than qualifying badly and being stuck in a final where even if you finish first it's a bad result for you.
edit: May take a little longer as to have the same number of competitors in each final you have to have 2 less 'confirmed' on the grid and 2 bumping up, or similar... but i can't see it adding hours onto a race meeting.

How about starting your final facing the wrong way?!?!???
meaning you have to do a "U" turn at the start of your race.....
A bit of fun:thumbsup:

At my local club we've ran bump up finals for the past few years. We originally brought it in because we always had a big skill gap in drivers and there quite often was 1 or 2 dropping into the B that would be able to win it hands down (small club) so running the bump up finals allows you to come back, we've got more members now but we still run them as it gives the entrants in the lower finals something to aim for.
