So whos going, Im looking to go to it for my first indoor regional ever :D
Who else is going, I heard its a slippy track and that minipins are advised. Considering I spent justunder 90 quid at the aces, im not sure I wanna fork out another 20 for tyres for a single meet.
Anyway, whos going?

it is a fantastic venue and a very good meeting. Its the place to be if you want to see the best. Its very slippy and a few jumps and rubber mats. You have to drive this track. You will enjoy yourself.

£90 on tyres at Aces? Bloody hell - I don't spend £90 a year on tyres! Pins are best for the more dedicated, faster, smoother drivers where spikes work just as well for the not-so-fast driver (thats 4WD). For 2WD pins all day long. Wear is quite good at Batley (because of the slippy) so for most 1 new set will probably last all day

(I know that there will be a few people that dissagree with this, but for those of us that will never make an A final - or probably even a B - I just don't see the point of new tyres nearly every run!):)

I think doors open at 8:00?

woOdy
08-11-2006, 03:15 PM
Col you are spot on. Even the big boys dont replace tyres every run inside.
1 set a day.

tc2k
08-11-2006, 04:12 PM
NO!, not £90 on tyres, Im not that stupid I spent £90 on stuff I mean so Im skint. I see that your saying pins are best for 2wd but I was saying I cant afford to shell out for a set of pins that will eb solely used for that one day at Batley, will spikes be okay for me as Im expecting to only be around the F final area :(

wacattack
08-11-2006, 04:24 PM
HAHAHAAHAHHAH, this thread has made me laugh, everyone thinking the £90 was for tyres.

To spend that in 1 meeting you would have to make pit stops mid run for a tyres change.....now there's a thought! :-)

Chrislong
08-11-2006, 04:28 PM
The tyres we put on new for Batley, will be more than enough for the regional at Teesside where new tyres are not essential.

Your Yellow Minispikes will work very well, don't worry :)

Col
08-11-2006, 04:32 PM
Sorry, dude! Wayne's right about needing pitstops!!
Spikes will work no probs at Batley. I've run them there myself. There's no getting away from the fact that pins are better because the grip on the carpet in nowhere near the levels of Teeside or Durham, and with surface changes (carpet to slippy, slippy to carpet) the slightly lower grip of spikes might be an advantage for the average driver - not as likely to grip roll when going from slippy to carpet mid corner.

Speaking of average drivers - I'm running spikes on my losi...

tc2k
08-11-2006, 04:47 PM
Thanks for the reassurances chris :)
Im also deliberating whether to run my new 12t or my 19 I ran at Teesside. I heard because of Batleys constant surface changes the 12 may be overkill, whats everyone think?

wacattack
08-11-2006, 04:51 PM
12 should be a good motor to run. Yes in parts there will be slippy surfaces but the track is big. A 19 is too safe

Il be running my 10x2 on Sunday!!

wow what a shock!!!

That was my first off road event in 10 years and the first time i had driven a 4wd car.

I didnt half struggle after racing on road for the last decade, one thing i can say though it is one of the most enjoyable meeting i have attended in years and i knew hardly anyone there.

A special thanks goes to Dan Greenwood and your mate. i have never spoken to dan before and after watching my qualifying and seeing me struggle with the art of jumping gave me some tips, thanks Dan.

This would never of happened in touring cars and i cant wait till the next round, but i do need a hell of a lot more practice.

another thing slightly off topic , has anyone ever split the o rings in the AE shocks as i did both my rears yesterday

:)

Snap! too right!
you lot have to be one of the friendliest buch i've raced against.

I too have to say that being away from off road for so long is a bit of a ulture shock getting used to the controls again. but as you say driving on road for 10yrs plus, you tend to loose touch with how to drive!....properly anyway!

trust me to be in the same heat as the photographer though!:(

You looked good in your final but those front shocks seemed shockingly soft! seemed to work alright for you though.

telboy
13-11-2006, 10:21 PM
haha, yeh. stripped em down when i got home and its got no.1 pistons in all 4 shocks. so it must've had thicker oil in the rear shocks?! cos the rear def' felt stiffer than the front:confused: wierd.

I've changed oil for now and put some substatially thicker in the front, until i get hold of some different pistons.

It was better in the final though. i had got wider front on than others so i choped some of the spikes off and it felt much better.

thanks anyway.

jimmy
13-11-2006, 10:25 PM
Does it not come with any extra pistons ?
how mean!

The rear had softer springs on so it would have more of a damped feeling I guess. #2 pistons and 40wt I'd go with in the front, #1 and 30 in the rear - I think thats a good starting point and personally I never really alter much from there.

PaulRotheram
13-11-2006, 10:30 PM
try get some number two pistons for the front, and run 30 or 35 weight oil depending on preference. I've been running 30 and the car has been VERY good. But it is all down to preference, some prefer thicker oil to smooth the car out. Somthing to try for you!

telboy
13-11-2006, 10:41 PM
thank guys,
i'll try various things at the next meeting. if i can get hold of some pistons.

no jimmy it doesn't come with any extra pistons. I thought that was strange too.

PaulRotheram
13-11-2006, 10:54 PM
was the kit new? im 100% sure my kit came with some! how odd.

Front/ #1 piston 35 oil 1 limitor
Rear/ #2 piston 30 oil 0 limitor

This seems to be the 'standard' setup many use and don't change from.

jimmy
13-11-2006, 10:56 PM
Its a RTR b4 he has paul. But even my Atech BX1 came with alternate pistons.. thinking about it, my RTR hong nor came with alternate pistons too.

I did have millions of the things kicking about, i will have a look for you. you just need a couple of #2's so someone must have some spare

13-11-2006, 11:03 PM

No worries dude, glad it helped. You clearly had good corner speed but had no idea how the car handled in or over the jumps. Your car was WAAAAAY to fast as well, like rediculous for that surface. I had assumed it was a brushless from the violent acceleration. I'd back off a couple of winds until you're more comfortable with the car and then build it up.

I drew them, using a commercially available airbrush template as a reference, then scanned them, then plotted them out onto Avery masking vinyl. I cut them all apart and laid them down in about 5 or 6 pieces, and faded in the transparent SpazStix anodized red behind them. It was actually a pretty easy paint job once the drawings were done...

If G won with a walking pace car cos he couldn't get the right pinion on, how much is he going to win by if he gears it correctly?

If I can get my car to hold together for more than 2 minutes at a time (2.5 minutes for the motor) I reckon I can challenge more. I might have found a source for some RC10 bits ( I cannot give away my sources) and he has some new shock bodies (note jim!!!!) so some rear damping won't go a miss either! Not sure if he can source a dogbone though :(
