How do you rate the quality of the kit compared to the xb4?, I hate to say it but looks even better!!

The XB4 was excellent of course, but this feels differently good. similar if not better really. Things like sometimes on the XB4 you were having to work hard to get the screws into the plastics, wrist ache, and you could feel the heat in the screws from the friction as you screwed it into the plastic bits. None of that with the Bmax4, screws go in easily. Also i like the fact they use different grades of plastics depending on if the parts need to flex or not. Example wing mounts. The XB4 wing mounts were forever breaking. They were just brittle, in my opinion, but made out of the same grade of plastic as everything else. The bmax on the other hand they are made out of a more flexible plastic and look like they will take much more abuse, also bumper also is the same, certainly different plastic to the bulkheads and gearbox casings and arms. The Yokomo shocks are a better experience. The xb4 shocks are not bad, but i found the lack of anything to hold the shock body with a bit of a problem sometimes with things got tight, or you wanted to screw the cap on tight, to stop the leaks.
For me the only "bad" bit about the bmax4 is the availability of white wheels. there are none at the moment, so i'm stuck with yellow!

Can't you use a hex from a TD or XB4 and use those wheels?
Thats what I did with the MR2, put on a 14mm hex and use the xray rims

yes need to try this with TD hexes. Seen it done on rear of mr2, but the front doesn't work with xray hexes. did you make up a spacer, or use lots of shims?

Looks like a great bit of kit. If I bought one I'd probably never get chance to race it.
Would it be naughty to buy one then, in that case?!

for the sake of those why not change them???

Nice Andy. Didn't realise you'd changed over to Yok.
Just got it as something to build really and have a go with, I quiet like the idea of the gear diffs also.
I think in my kit I got both Allen head machine screws and cross headed self tappers for my wing mounts... I obviously used the machine screws

I suspect I scared him into getting one as I nearly beat him. He won by 0.4sec though.
I wish I was just as convincing in the speed department, but I tend to focus on demonstrating the Yokomos' durability... :p

Ran mine for the first time yesterday. Indoors so not ideal but was quite pleased. Felt a bit over damped all day so will need to work on that next time out.
Qualifting was tough as i was in bottom heat but ended up Q7 and finished 2nd overall with a 3 2 2 in the finals.
Overall pretty pleased so far.

It handles just brilliant on high grip astro
Although it's the "light weight" kit it's still a rather heavy car, but on the track it doesn't feel so. In contrary, I found it very nimble. It's very stable and so easy to drive and push hard. Ran it for the first time this weekend and I immediately posted the fastest laps of the day! A broken servo ruined my chance for overall victory though. This car responds very well to setup changes, whilst a lot of cars were fighting against grip-roll, I drove her hard with new tires and minimal tire cutting.
Thank you Yokomo:D

Good to hear you went well first time out RCPower. What servo did you break?
rcpower
11-09-2014, 06:52 AM
It was an "old" KO servo (PS-2173), back from the days when I used to drive Nitro on-road. Whilst steering to full lock to the left, it went back to centre position(only for a fraction of a second). This happened 3 or 4 times. Needless to say I was a couple of times too wide and forced into error because of this. Still finished 5 seconds down the leader though. I could not reproduce the behaviour when the servo was out of the car. With a different servo in I didn't experience it anymore though...

Yes, this is with the shorty(light weight conversion) chassis.
Yes, the grip level at this track is insane when it's dry!

I have 2 Penguin bodys for the Bmax4 lll. Both are way to short to fit properly... They are around 4/5mm to short. The first one is very VERY thick (which I think is great) but the second one has the same thickness as a stock Yokomo body.

I must admit I put it on to stop snapping things at the front as I'd used it twice and broken it twice. Since fitting I've not broken anything so that seems like a success, mind you I've been running 2wd for the past few months.
Can't comment on the handling effect as my set ups are usually rubbish

As in you've broken the front tower? Im currently running the PSM 4mm tower and have had no issues... Ive done about 12-14 packs in the Yok running 6.5t on generally harsh Australian outdoor tracks..
Ive only broken a rear arm and couple of rear camber ball studs due to full throttle and doing cartwheels to the side, my bad.

Guys, wanna talk wheels, and my hatred of yellow lol. I have some DE speedlines NIP in various colors for the ZX6 rear and ZX5/6 front, they seem to give a 3mm front wider stance and a 2mm rear, but its the closest i can get to run some colored rims, reckon they will be OK, or is my Max4 III gonna run like a pig?
Lee
It'll be fine, and well within the brca box. I run the green ones.

Yeah white Venoms, work well on carpet, not street here im afraid, not as consistent as a pin, but we run them as a control to save the carpet for TC cars.

Mate i was dreading my first time out with mine, but it surprised me, was quick all night save for a bit of grip roll, which adding 4mm of spacers in the front dampers soon tamed, great car!

Looks great mate .
Bit of advice , don't use the new shell on sat , it will get f--ked .
There are a lot of bad drivers out there who don't give a f--k .
Especially when your in the bottom heat .
It's up to you tho .

Shells gonna get beat up whatever I do, so I'll probably just run it. Can always get Stu to do another, he loved painting it !

I had a word with him Sunday. the lad that bought em was pitted next to me n they looked spot on for my paint job. Lee said he could get some, but I thought I'd find some online easy, but it hasn't worked out.

Just got new bodyshell in my colours for my Bmax4iii. Nearly got rid of it as coming from 2wd to 4wd found it a bit difficult to get the hang of and it was certainly not like my optima mid from 25 yrs ago! A day out at torch made me appreciate it. Now just need to find time to race it more as well as the 2wd.

I always appreciate someone who still remembers the wonderfull group B rally cars ! These things make the current wrc cars look like boy toys. Group B was for real men :-). But : kankkunen never rode the Delta S4 (i think). The Fins that tried t tame that monster were markku alèn and Henri Toivonen (who saddly lost his live in one)
