lipo help? am i getting half charge?

just charged my new trackpower 3200's and its peaked at 8.4v and 1770mah is this right?
i charged it at 3amps on standard charge
its says on the box it can fast charge at 6.4amps
ive charged it on a bantem e-station bc6 which charges all types of batterys.
the chap from flightpower said it was a better all round charger for what im doing.
so what should i be getting from these cells
coz the way i see it it peaks on voltage before it has chance to put the mah in it.
help!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they come with a little bit of charge in the from trakpower check the voltage with a volt meter.

you'll never run it flat so you will never put 3200 in. Each race takes out about 2000mah in my cells.

I am sure Ash is right, you do not want to overcharge lipo's or allow them to discharge below approx 6 volts (or3volts/cell), 3 amps is a good charge rate, think you should be OK.

remember, with lithium polymer your charger should be set to Constant voltage with a current limit, under this regime the battery voltage increases gradually while the current remains constant. Once 8.40V is reached the voltage stays constant and the current tapers down towards zero. Fully charge is achieved when the current is between C/20 and C/40..

so 8.40V 'peak' is not something you shoudl be looking at.

To summarise, that's normal! ;) They 'peak' at 8.4V

Tonight I was using a massive 1100mah to complete 6 mins of 2wd running.

I was explaining that a peak of 8.40V for Lithium Ion Polymer is not the same as we think of as 'peaking' with NiCd and NiMH (i.e. fully charged).

The 8.40V level will also be reached far sooner when the cells are cold and also as the pack ages due to increases in resistance.

as long as you set your bantam to LiPo charge, and set the current and max capacity, there should be no issue.

All lipo packs comes with charge in them.

only way to check capacity is discharge to 6 volts then re charge.
as has been said the lipo will charge at user defined amps until the voltage reached 8.4, the charger will then maintain 8.4 volts by dropping the amps. if you see more than 8.5 volts terminate the charge. if it sits at 8.4 and your amps drop down allot its near charged.

its all fine and working ok, you have a good charger and pack (what i use) just use to 6 volt min and re charge and enjoy the extra time you save from lipo!!
