Firstly, thanks everybody for your recent feedback and discussions on this class. These have now been considered and here is how we run this class from THIS FRIDAY (24th January):
Chassis: Primarily Mini but “moderately paced” touring cars, F1s and Mardave Mini-Stox, Hpi, Traxxas, Ftx etc welcome. No TRF MODELS ALLOWED
Bodyshell: Any
Motor: Any but 10t brushless (or 19t brushed) or slower preferred.
For F1 cars and Mardaves, minimum 20t brushed or 21t brushless allowed
Tyres: Any type of foam or rubber tyre
Electronics: Maximum of 7.2v Nimh/Nicad Batteries - Maximum of nominal 7.4v Lipo Batteries only.
Hopefully these changes are to everybody's liking. The intention is to keep this heat as a "fun", "run what ya brung" class where people get to run cool cars of their choice and the restore the "Gentlemans'" code. It should also discourage people from trying to win the heat by simply running a super-fast car (like the old Outlaw class). If your car is super-fast, fine but you won't be racing anybody!

Well, it is true :) As for the reasoning behind the silvercan change for F1s it came from TIC Racing's claim that the HPI 20T fancan is a longer lasting less overheating prone alternative to the Mardave G2. That's been my experience too :)

Was it that Jordan per chance?
I've just change the motor for a 27T Saturn.
For my TA02 I have been able to shoe-horn a 22t pinion in to take the edge off the mad acceleration, but then limited the throttle to 80-85%, depending on how it matches up to everybody elses "Tamtubs"

FYI, it has the later battery cradles like mine so will take a square LIPO no problem. Might need to raise the top deck by a mm using washers, but won't need a dremel!!
Not bad for £40 but not as sex as the one you raced last week Scott,
If it arrives before Friday then like I say I'll throws some electrics in and see what happens :woot:
I might have got the bug as I want the DTM merc now lol

What's the field going to be like? I'll be taking my Mardave with the TL01 as a backup... running lipo on the Dave, might be too light and twitchy.

As long as I can race the Mardave somewhere I don't mind ;) Nothing full contact though.

My 6 wheeler has a silver can and kit gearing and the 104w Lotus has a 21.5 which is slower but more controllable ... Both have kit gearing. I have sold the f104 pro (Lewis Hamilton silver one) as it was beyond me setup wise.
I have a f104w Ferrari coming which Id like to run for the last round ;-)

I hate to ask this, but... F1 at the expense of what class?
Just to play devil's advocate, a lot of the people driving F1 are also driving Tamiya tourers, Mardaves as well as occasionally doing off-road and touring cars. That is to say the F1ers are not exclusively F1ers, but rather the sort of people that enjoy driving a variety of cars. There's a small risk that it could be a class with wildly varying numbers week to week. Needs to be discussed.

Does it have to be at the expense of another class?

That's another question that needs to be asked, there's only a limited amount of time at the basketball court.

I don't think we need to lose a class as we can just set up a seperate championship, its just question of which class they slot in with.
cunawarit
22-01-2014, 02:49 PM
Right, so they could run alongside another class and score points for the F1 trophy. Makes sense.
Chris56
22-01-2014, 03:01 PM
Thats how it used to be with buggies: they would all race together but there would be seperate trophies for 2wd, 4wd (and possibly SCTs?)
cunawarit
22-01-2014, 03:44 PM
Hehehe... if we do that for stock buggy it'll just be dave and me :D YAY! Second place trophy.

How do you think I won the SCT class last year??!!!
siddus74
22-01-2014, 04:22 PM
No, No .. I want to run clubman and F1 !!!! Put the F1's in with the faster tourers!!!
Scott.
leedolby77
22-01-2014, 04:44 PM
But I want to run Tourers, and F1 :p
I wouldn't put my F1 in with them, just keep them in the clubman, with no points, maybe put an option on the booking in to select F1,mardave,TC but under the clubman heading, that way Dave could sort out the heats better(nothing wrong with the way they have been)if we start to run an F1 class only it might get so people want to run faster motors,or just end up with 3 every week,
I have a silver can you can have
Thank you that would be kind,
I'll bring my soldering iron :)

Surely the best thing is to see if there will be enough F1 to make a heat, if there isn't then they can be combined with Clubmans class. if the F1 class has proper rules and runs competitively then it should pick up and keep the numbers.
There is no longer a national series to race this in so people will be looking for quality racing.
I think anyway.

22-01-2014, 09:18 PM
Makes a lot of sense, Clubman is very mixed. If someday lots of F1s turn up they go together in faster heat. If another day lots of people turn up with Lunchboxes and Midnight Pumpkins they go together in a very slow heat :)
I wouldn't put my F1 in with them
I tried racing the TL01 with the Outlaws when that class existed, it mostly involved putting various broken bits of TL01 in a bin liner and packing up early. Slight exaggeration, but it did involve a tonne of breakages! Brittle old Tamiya plastic is OK at Clubman speeds, but when it gets a solid wack at 45 MPH it is gone...

F1's could go in with the GT12s, comparable drive axels and speed, and the Gt class is dropping off a bit

When I raced f1s in the 90s they were in a heat with the 1/12 cars - there were no motor limits and they were marginally faster. Most of the F1s ran 27t motors and the heat worked quite well.

When you talk about your RC racing in the 90s it seems like you are talking about something that happened long long ago. But, come on... It was just the 90s, like last week... Maybe I am just getting old :(

Dave is right, it is a heck of a challenge :) And lots of fun! I'll be splitting my time between clubman and stock buggy I think. Stock buggy does feel way more "off road" than buggy carpet racing usually does.
