Who'd be up for an oOple trackday at somewhere like Blyton Park? My MX5 is slowly taking shape over winter as it's sorned probably until about march / april.
I'm thinking weekday - not sure we'd muster enough for an exclusive oople day at all - but we can all have a laugh and I can hand out some special decals for those playing :)
I know rob fox is up for it - but wondered if anyone else would be? There's nothing really to crash into at Blyton - so it's rather safe. Unless I spin in front of you.
Interest level?

Be a good sociial outing with a bunch of us there. Sounds like my 1.6 eunos is the slowest car of all but it's good fun to drive.
Are people ok with a weekday? I think we're often busy racing or stuff at the weekends - some of us self employed lot can do it whenever but others would have to book it off of course.
If there's enough serious interest then I will look into it seriously - even if we all go under a javelin / whatever trackday banner - or if we can sort it out direct with Blyton (not sure if that's possible).
Damo - hard choice - both would be fun in different ways. Love an RB5 myself and an escort mk2 for that matter.

I might need Jim Dixon to sort a set of
Impreza wheels and tyres out! I don't really want to use my mint Speedlines!
I could be tempted to find the "track" saxo in my garage.
Weekday suits me better.
Anyone got a trailer I could borrow? And a tow car?

This sounds awesome! I think it would be easiest to just pick an existing trackday and all book that.
I just booked to go to Blyton on the 15th with MOT www.mazdaontrack.co.uk
Lets pick a date and let battle commence!
Damo, I wonder if the RX7 is for hire?

Rob - you're probably totally bang on with that - would just need to get a list of people interested and make sure there's room for us all.

Blyton's where I'm thinking - Rob Fox has been so he knows more but it looks nice smooth tarmac to me.
Elvington airbase in York on the other hand is rough concrete - plus it's not a proper track.

Fancy a few pillion laps on my GSXR Jimmy?
There's usually no stone walls on circuits, so we should be all cool ;) :p

Went to blyton yesterday, did about 120 miles on track used a tank and a half of fuel including the journey there and back. Tyres are still looking really good, Toyo t1-r. So i'd say blyton is very easy on tyres, brakes might take a hammering but you can always slow down a bit earlier for the braking zones.
I'm really not interested in Elvington, went there on an 'experience' day in an M3 and was pretty unimpressed with the place, get the feeling the tyres would be in shreds on the concrete.
So when we organising this?

I'm good pretty much any time - my car is insured in a week or so but not taxed or indeed been fitted with my cobra buckets and TRlane cage (he had a flood) But It'll be fine as it is. I just won't drive it in salt/snow at all. I reckon a month or two boss. What organiser did you go with Rob? Must have been open pitlane?

Been with MOT (Mazda on track) and Javelin. I know what you mean about the not driving it while theyre still gritting, i just wash the underside of the car off if when take it out in the winter.
Also BOOM, gonna be fastest car with yellow wheels at the oOple trackday lol

Out of the reasonably priced organisers in my experience:
Javelin are good
Apex are also good
Both are good and both tend to do open pit lane at venues like Blyton.

So a couple of years after Jimmy started this thread.
Jimmy never had the chance to build his Eunos into the track day warrior he wanted it to be. Jimmys car ultimaly became Jim Dixons car who spent time, effort and energies using the parts Jimmy had assembled as well as some he sourced himself to build what you see below. I may be biased but it's a little gem....

Jim spent some time on track but luckily for me decided it was time to find some pastures new so a friend of mine and myself are now the proud owners.
Spec is a mk1 MX5 1.6 Eunos, Jap spec 115bhp engine. Tubular manifold, Meister R suspension, stripped interior, rear TL roll cage, race battery, respray, as well as a couple of other mods. I added the wheels which were a Gumtree bargain with almost new Toyo T1R's on them. Immediate plans include junking the AC system, uprating the front ARB, lowering a shade more and improving the cooling system a bit to further bullet proof it for track days.
As you can see from this picture it's taken some hammer already ;-)

That was a solid days tracktime at Blyton Park last weekend. It was such good fun we're booked in for another on the 8th June and if anyone else fancies it, it would be good to see you!

Hopefully you got through at least one day without any seats spontaneously combusting ;)

LOL yes, Jim got a new seat for the drivers side so the burn mark is just on the passenger side which you can't see. Crotch strap, front ARB and some other bits on the way ahead of a couple of evenings spannering this weak. Some Nankang AR1's on the wish list ultimatly along with a supercharger ;-)

MX5`s are ACE,i bought a clapped out MK one a couple of years ago off Gumtree for a couple of hundred quid,i managed to get it on the road last year but sadly ran out of funds,it`s still stashed away in the garage and hope it will see the road again at some point,i don`t think it is good enough to be a track car,too much filler (weight) great fun to drive though :)
