Hi all,
I need to get a new motor, around 5.5, but wondered what differences there were between LRP(Nosam)/Speed Passion/Tekin Redline(Sensored)/Novak?
Has anyone tried the different makes??

I personally have run a good range...
Really liked the Novak motors, used bonded and sintered versions and found them very good. Only down side was the sensor wire permanately attached. Orion, used it once and got rid... found it wasn't that quick and was very sharp on the brakes.
Speed Passion - used them for the last year and must say was the best i have ran untill this weekend....
Used the new Tekin sensored motors and wow!!! ran very cool, was super quick loads of punch. Not sure what they are like with other speed controls.
Yes i am a team driver for Tekin but i am well happy with the performance of the motor's.. hence changing from Speed Passion!!!
Couldn't tell you what the price differences are either.

Do you know if they are submitting for homologation over the winter for next year, they aren't on the BRCA list yet?

I've got no issues with Speed Passion, and no lack of speed either  They obviously aren't one oft he established names in motors, but they certainly have a good b/l motor.
In fairness i don't think there are any bad ones. The govening bodies set their specs out, and in reality there doesn't seem to be any bad ones that are on the list..

Tekin...
It is usually up to the UK importer or distributor to do this and not the manufacturer, I very much doubt that Tekin themsleves would of sent samples to the BRCA for testing, thats why I wondered who had??

tried the new tekin redline 5.5 and 6.5 motors over the weekend as mat says, they were awsome. never lacked in speed or punch (almost wanted a 7.5) and never missed a beat and as can be seen in jimmys report they are a very well built piece of kit that looks nice as well. cant wait to try lipo now as it looked really good in the teams cars at worksop

Only a 7.5? I was on an 8.5 Novak (with Lipo mind you).

Were you using the RS pro sensored Esc with it?

I thought that the Speed Passion, GM and Team Orion motors are all sourced from Feiago brushless motors (http://www.feigao.com/sdp/85838/4/pd-102732/2785483-51426.html) and are essentially the same.

Im sure there are some very similar parts about them, but i can honestly say the Orion motor didn't look anything like the Speed Passion Version 2 motor's i used !!!
Not saying they don't come from the same place but they are defo not the same...

I see from the BRCA Specification that the newer V2 from Orion and Speed Passion motors seem to be Y wind and Delta wind. I currently use the old Orion motors and a Peak Vantage but am thinking that there is something new in these new versions.
I like the idea of the new Tekin RS controlled being able to show the sensors working by flashing the leds as you turn the motor over. I also like the idea of starting the motor in sensored mode and then letting the sensorless software take control afterwards. Do you use this setting or do you let it run in sensored mode all of the time? The new sensored motors look very well made and should be able to get rid of heat quickly with that heatsink can. Do you know when the Tekin sensored motors will be readily available? as I am unable to see them advertised on the internet.

The mode you are talking about is classed as Hybrid....
Yes i do use this setting, to be honest it doesn't feel any different to any other speedo i have used. The good thing about it is if the sensor lead comes out, gets wet or has dust in the car will switch to sensorless automatically..
I am sure if you contact Model Images, Xtreme R/C or DMS Racing they should be able to help you as i know they all do the Tekin equipment.
At the moment the new motors are not on the BRCA list as legal, hopefully this should change when the new list arrives.
